How activist and entrepreneur Mandana Dayani accomplishes with eyeliner and lots of coffee

Mandana Dayani doesn't like to sit still. The former Rachel Zoe executive and mother of two just launched (and runs) the voter awareness campaign "I am a voter" and launched the podcast "The Dissenters" with co-host Debra Messing. As an entrepreneur, activist, and lawyer, Dayani focuses her energy on empowering the individual. This has led to a no-nonsense attitude and a slate of quick-fix beauty rituals.

My husband and I usually wake up around 6 a.m. when our daughter Anderson jumps into bed. I don't function until I have my first cup of coffee. Then I check the news.

These days it takes me 15 minutes to get ready; it used to take me 45. Every morning I drink two cups of coffee with hard-boiled eggs and avocado toast.

And I am obsessed with Kosas Revealer Concealer (opens in new tab), Tinted Face Oil Foundation (opens in new tab), and Baked Bronzer (opens in new tab). I almost always wear a suit! It takes me about an hour and a half to get glammed up and usually an hour to do my own makeup. Now that my daughters are into beauty, it takes even longer.

I take walks around the neighborhood and listen to music. I don't answer the phone or check my messages. [Making time for gratitude and keeping in touch with loved ones reminds me that I need to focus more on my mental health.

My friend Debra Messing and I really wanted to share the stories of heroes who have been lifelong advocates for social justice and have inspired us to stop being bystanders. So we decided to launch a podcast called The Dissenters to share stories that will help others find their purpose and pursue their passions. I have taken many giant leaps in my career, but figuring out what I want to do next has always been incredibly scary and exciting.

"No" means trying harder again.
