Black Lives Matter Activist Oluwatoyin Salau Killed in Tallahassee

On Monday, June 15, police found the bodies of 19-year-old Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoyin "Toin" Salau (opens in new tab) and 75-year-old AARP volunteer Victoria Sims in Tallahassee, Florida. Both Salau and Sims' deaths were ruled homicides, and Aaron Glee Jr. (49) was taken into custody by Tallahassee police as a suspect.

On June 6, Salau tweeted (open in new tab) that he had been sexually assaulted and has been missing ever since. (Sarau had been actively protesting the murders of Tony McDade in Tallahassee and George Floyd in Minneapolis, calling for justice for lost black lives.

Now protesters are doing the same for Salau, using the hashtag #JusticeForToyin.

"Toyin was very passionate," Danaya Hemphill, a friend of Salau's, told the Tallahassee Democrat (opens in new tab). 'She was very vocal, very loving, very spiritual, very compassionate. She was like a light in a dark room. That was Toine.
