Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not attend Princess Beatrice's royal wedding

Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi were married Friday morning (open in new tab) at the Royal Lodge of All Saints' Royal Chapel. A source told Town & Country that fewer than 20 people were invited to the ceremony. This friend confirmed, "For the most part, it was just him and her immediate family."

And while the Queen, Prince Philip, and Mozzie's son "Wolfie" (opens in new tab) were all present to hear the intimate "I dos," in fact, the wedding was planned to fit the British monarch's schedule, that same source said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were present for the October 2018 wedding of Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, and Jack Brooksbank (opens in new tab), but their absence on Friday should not be taken as a slight against York's sister.

A few weeks after the Sussexes decided to step down from their senior positions in the royal family, the family moved to Los Angeles. And given the current global health crisis, it would not have made sense for the Sussex family to travel abroad for the event, especially given the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in California.

At this time, it is unknown when Harry, Meghan, and little Archie will next return to the UK.
