Kate Middleton and Prince William take their children on a meaningful family vacation.

The Cambridges are on a staycation! Kate Middleton and Prince William (opens in new tab) took their children (Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis) to the Isle of Scilly, an archipelago off Cornwall in southwest England, the Mirror reports. An insider told the paper, "They decided to take a little vacation before the kids go back to school. They were keen to support our travel industry"

. [Locals have already seen the family cycling on Tresco Island. And they seem to be in great spirits: William and Kate were riding their bikes and laughing. They seemed to be enjoying the weather and looked very happy." He added, "I did a double-take. They were really friendly and said hi to each other."

What makes the trip special is nostalgia for William, who spent childhood vacations on the Isle of Scilly with his parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince Harry. Is he introducing the children of Cambridge to some of his favorite spots from his childhood?

The choice of destination also had a practical purpose. Kate and William were reportedly considering a vacation elsewhere in Europe, but chose to stay in the UK during the coronavirus crisis. Under current blockade measures, Britons must be quarantined at home for two weeks after visiting certain European countries, a major problem for the Cambridges, who recently resumed official duties as active royalty. (Fortunately, the UK is currently experiencing a heat wave.
