Welcome to Worth It! Every other week, I'll introduce you to a new product that I've tested and loved: I'm talking about the kind of love that drains to the bottom and says to your friends, "I love this!" I'm talking about the kind of love that makes you say, "I love it! Consider it permission to splurge on anything featured here. Read on (opens in new tab) for a breakdown of the products you don't want to give away, and the latest Worth It.

Legendary fragrance house Crigler (opens in new tab) has always been firmly rooted in romance. In fact, it was born out of an almost cinematic love story: in 1879, German chemist Albert Crigler fell in love with the daughter of a French perfumer and created a fragrance for his beloved to mark their engagement. 1904, Crigler created a full-fledged fragrance brand (his first creation JFK was known to have used the sporty America One 31 (opens in new tab), and Grace Kelly used the floral Château Crigler 12 (opens in new tab) on the night she won an Oscar for "Country Girl" as a She used it as a good luck charm. Unlike the brand's more wholesome fans, however, I found myself deeply devoted to one of its more seductive fragrances. [It is a scent of leather and black tea reminiscent of Berlin in 1910, blended with romantic floral notes of geranium and lavender inspired by love letters sent between young fiancées. Originally marketed as a cologne, the Maison decided to market it as its first unisex product after actress and singer Marlene Dietrich visited the Crigler boutique in the 1930s and declared it to be her new signature fragrance. Its reputation also grew among literary figures: Zelda Fitzgerald gave the perfume to her author husband Scott when he was writing Tender is the Night.

I consider myself a healthy cynic and a hopeless romantic. There was probably a scene in Midnight in Paris where an antique car full of hedonistic Frenchmen takes a wine-drunk Owen Wilson back in time to Ane Falls at midnight. While it is true that the leathery aroma reminds one of nights spent hand-rolling cigarettes for new friends in the Pigalle district, it also evokes a mood. One whiff and you'll immediately want to treat yourself to a New York Sour at the East Village stand-by Prune and go dancing until your heels hurt. (Because no party was ever as intense as the Fitzgerald family's.) Rather than choosing this perfume because it fits my mood on a particular day, I feel my mood change with the perfume itself.

It is sexy and functional in every sense of the word. The herbaceous lavender scent freshens up the deep leather and tea notes. It is also completely androgynous, making it suitable for any outfit or occasion. The deep, creamy scent of sandalwood and tonka bean lasts all night on the skin with just a spritz or two. It's hard to put a price on fortitude these days. The confidence that Lieberstaff 14 gives me is worth every penny.
