Watch the moment Kamala Harris called Joe Biden with the news of her victory
[Kamala Harris, Vice President-elect, released a video of her talking to President-elect Joe Biden on Twitter Saturday morning, shortly after he and Vice President-elect Joe Biden were announced as the winners of the 2020 election.
"Joe, I did it," Harris says in the sweet, sad video. He adds, "You're going to be the next president of the United States," and then bursts into laughter of excitement and relief.
Harris does not add any background to the video, but from her athleisure wardrobe, it appears that the vice president-to-be was out running in the park when she heard the news. Could she be any cooler or more relatable?
Harris, of course, makes history as the first female, first black, and first South Asian vice president. To celebrate this historic moment, thousands took to Twitter (opens in new tab): "Harris will be the highest-ranking woman ever to serve in government. Billie Jean King said on social media, "The future is bright.
"Mom showed us we can be anything and do anything. Harris' sister Maya wrote on Twitter, along with a photo of her mother, who died in 2009.
Shortly after Biden and Harris were confirmed as winners, Harris also took to social media to send out a hopeful message about bringing the country together. She wrote: "This election is about more than Joe Biden and me. It is about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let's get started," she wrote.
It echoed a message Biden, soon to become the 46th President of the United States, shared on social media (opens in new tab): "America, I am honored that you have chosen me to lead this great country: the work ahead is hard. But I promise you all: the work ahead will be hard. I will be a president for all Americans.
