Reactions of Heads of State and Government to Joe Biden's Victory in the U.S. Presidential Election
Joe Biden has been officially declared the winner of the 2020 U.S. presidential election (open in new tab). News broke Saturday afternoon that Biden had won the state of Pennsylvania. The 20 electoral votes won in this pivotal swing state brought Biden's total to 273 (open in new tab), slightly more than the 270 needed to win the election. With Saturday's further victory, Biden's electoral vote tally rose to 290 (open in new tab).
"It is time for America to unite. And it's time to heal," Biden said in a brief statement reacting to the news.
"With the campaign over, it's time to put the anger and bitter rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. If we do this together, there is nothing we cannot do."
According to the Associated Press (open in new tab), Biden is on track to win the national popular vote by more than 4 million votes, but Donald Trump has refused to concede the campaign and continues to threaten legal action to contest the election results.
