Princess Kate's Best Christmas Looks

Princess Kate's Best Christmas Looks

[From Kate Middleton's annual carol concert to the King's Christmas speech to the Royal Family's walk to church, the Christmas season is always a highlight of the royal calendar. But one thing royal watchers look forward to every year is seeing what the Princess of Wales will bring out of her always-stylish wardrobe.

From her early days as a young duchess to her current role as the next queen, Princess Kate has worn a slew of sophisticated looks each season. From rich jewel tones that complement Sandringham's glamorous backdrop to cool country-inspired coats, the mother of three has been the MVP of Christmas fashion in the Royal Family.

Narrowing it down to just six outfits is a daunting task, but take a trip down memory lane with Princess Kate's best ever Christmas looks.

Princess Kate looked like the epitome of English country chic in her Alexander McQueen olive green coat as she took the traditional walk to St. Mary Magdalen Church on Christmas Day 2022. The royal had worn the coat three times before, but the real magic was that she made it look completely different with her accessories.

The Princess of Wales wore a wide-brimmed Philip Treacy hat trimmed with jolly feathers and a pair of Cezanne earrings with dangling blue and green beads I wonder if I'm still mad that two years later it's sold out? She added slouchy brown boots and a matching clutch bag for the royal Christmas Day outing. As for the coat, the olive green topper was a surprising color choice and will stand out among the mostly black outerwear.

Prince William and Princess Kate chose to spend Christmas with the Middletons instead of the royal family in 2016, taking 3-year-old Prince George and 1-year-old Princess Charlotte to their first holiday church service.

Once again, the princess wore her old favorite coat, but with clever styling to make it look new. She wore a chestnut brown Hobbs coat with a burgundy fur collar (which, according to What Kate Wore, appears to be a $23 Assos style).

The addition of the fur stole made it look like an entirely different coat.

My personal favorite Kate Christmas look is the black watch tartan check coat she wore to church in 2013. We all know that plaid heralds the holiday season, and this style was the perfect choice for a traditional Christmas walk to St. Mary Magdalen Church.

On her way to the service, Princess Kate walked hand in hand with Prince William, showing off her trusty black Aquatalia rumba boots, which she wore repeatedly when they were first married. Wearing a sweet green beret, the new mom (Prince George was born that summer) looked happy, radiant, and stylish.

Perhaps you could use a black watch coat to give your own winter wardrobe a touch of royal sparkle.

Christmas 2018 was a special one, being Prince Louis' first Christmas and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first Christmas together after their marriage. While Prince Louis stayed home during church, Princess Kate pulled out all the stops with her new vintage-inspired look.

She wore a berry red Catherine Walker coat with a wrap-around skirt, red velvet collar, and buttons marching down the front. A sparkling diamond oak leaf brooch, maroon gloves, Gianvito Rossi pumps, and a matching burgundy Mulberry clutch bag completed the ideal festive look.

The red skirted coat was hard to find, but trust me, it's a great look.

Cobalt blue is my favorite color, so I was excited to see the Duchess of Wales in a wonderfully vibrant coat for Christmas 2023. The style is a new special order from Alexander McQueen, but it remains a familiar look nonetheless. Princess Kate's new coat is merely a different color from the one the designer already owns. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The Princess of Wales continued the blue theme with a bright Juliette Botterill hat trimmed with ribbon-and-arrow accents, and even donned Elvis in blue suede shoes (er, boots). The royal family added a special touch with sapphire and diamond earrings that belonged to his late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Back to the coat, Kate proved that royal blue is just as glamorous as red and green styles and will last through the New Year.

Christmas 2020 was certainly unusual in any sense of the word, but Prince William and Princess Kate went on a royal train tour

to spread holiday cheer throughout the UK. Kate wore a black turtleneck with a long red Alexander McQueen coat and an ultra-festive red tartan check Emilia Wickstead skirt.

The maxi skirt she first wore to the 2018 Christmas event was an old one, but she changed the top and coat and added a new tassel-trimmed scarf in the same print as the skirt for a fresh look. A face mask (Emilia Wickstead, of course) also coordinated with the tartan check ensemble. Wearing a plaid maxi is somewhat difficult for us mere mortals, but the mini version is, IMO, infinitely more wearable.
