Sarah Ferguson “Literally Saved Christmas” in Prince Andreu's Chinese Spy Scandal
Despite several ongoing scandals, Sarah Ferguson recently vowed to support her ex-husband Prince Andrew no matter what. After it was reported that Prince Andrew was targeted by alleged Chinese spies, Ferguson was credited with convincing the Duke of York “to a point.” Several royal experts are now praising the Duchess of York for “saving Christmas” for the entire royal family.
Appearing on Mail+'s “Palace Confidential,” royal editor Rebecca English explained, “Sarah, the Duchess of York literally saved Christmas for the royal family.” English also noted that the holiday season could have been quite disastrous “if his ex-wife hadn't spoken those quiet words in his ear.”
Andrew has faced a number of high-profile scandals in recent years, but according to English, Ferguson has been by his side all along. The royal editor explained, “I have been told by sources on both sides of the fence that she has been just a small, still, calm voice of effort in her dealings with her ex-husband, and that the king understands that it is a very delicate situation.”
According to English, it was Ferguson's tactful diplomacy that made her invaluable to the royal family. English noted, “She has been very loyal to Andrew through all his difficulties over the years and, to be fair to her, has been respectful to the King and Queen, as well as the late Queen Elizabeth.”
English also suggested that the royal family was “very grateful and appreciative that [Ferguson] said to Andrew, ‘Look, why don't you step back this year and see where the future is?’”
Meanwhile, Richard Eden of the Daily Mail commented on Ferguson and Andrew's continued intimacy despite their divorce. 'They seem to spend Christmas together like the couple they once were. So maybe it's time for them to remarry
