Royal Insider reveals the (unusual) code name behind Prince Charles' health scare
King Charles shocked the world in February when he announced that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, and a new report in the Daily Mail on December 20 revealed that the royal palace had created a secret code name known to no one.
Royal editor Rebecca English reveals details that unfolded behind the scenes earlier this year, writing that the Buckingham Palace staff's “role was to devise a plan to support the king and reassure an anxious public.” [Queen Elizabeth's death plan was called “Operation London Bridge,” and the King's was reportedly upgraded to the same name.
The plan for Queen Elizabeth's death was called “Operation London Bridge,” and it is said that that of the King's was upgraded to the same name.
The name makes sense for Charles, an avid gardener, but according to royal sources, the monarch may not have even known that a flower-themed code existed.
“Even His Majesty may not know [what it was called],” the source said in English.
The Daily Mail, however, reported that any plans for His Majesty's health “were firmly initiated by the King himself,” noting that he wanted to be “as open as possible” with the public.
“The King hoped that if he could be honest, it might help others in the same position,” one royal source told English, adding that Prince Charles “wanted people to know that it is possible to continue leading a full and active life even while undergoing treatment. He wanted people to know that it is possible to continue to lead a full and active life while undergoing treatment,” he added.
Earlier Friday, royal palace sources announced that the king's cancer treatment would continue through the New Year, stressing that his health is still on the right track. During a visit to Walthamstow, London, before heading to Sandringham for Christmas, His Majesty the King gave a witty three-word response to a local faith leader when asked about his own health.
“I am still alive,” he joked, according to the Mirror.
As for 2025, The English magazine wrote that the New Year is likely to be an optimistic one for the King and Queen. One royal source said, “They have been through the worst and are stronger because of it.”
