Dua Lipa May Create Quirky Trench Coat Craze
Fans love to softly scoff at the fact that Dua Lipa is always on vacation, but her schedule this week has everyone scratching their heads: on December 10, the pop star flew to Milan for the Puma Speedcat launch party, and the next day, she flew back to New York to appear on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and rushed back to New York the next day for a personal look at the new trench coat trend.
Dua must have had a beauty sleep on the nine-hour international flight. The rich hunter green hue of her leather duster added a quirky spin to the classic trench coat. The jacket was perfect for concealing the forest green mock-neck bodycon dress she wore underneath. Her skin-tight maxi dress, which appeared to be made of sheer mesh, was covered in tonal studs and shimmered under the stage lights. Her dress was Alaia's and her pointy black pumps were Amina Muadi's, but the styling was clearly Jair Weaver's.
This isn't the only quirky trench coat she wore in the Big Apple this week. After promoting her upcoming special “An Evening With Dua Lipa” on Corvair, the “Levitating” singer wore a long python snakeskin jacket, baggy jeans, a black and white striped crew neck sweater, a French fashion brand Chanel's Cruise 2025 collection hobo bag, and a pair of slouchy black boots to match this year's boot trend back at the CBS studios. Chanel, Chloe, and Fendi have led the way in bundled boot designs, but Jennifer Lopez and Charli XCX also deserve credit for popularizing the style.
There is always a time and place for the timeless beige trench. But a statement trench in a striking color or print opens up a world of trendy styling possibilities. Why not give the essentials you already wear and love a second try?
