Gloria Steinem Honored as First Changemaker of “The Shift”
Throughout her life, Gloria Steinem has worked tirelessly to give women a seat at the table. So it is fitting that a dinner party honoring her decades of dedication is exactly what Steinem deserves: hosted by The Shift on October 16 in New York City, the event brought together fellow activists, fashion insiders, and celebrities to celebrate Steinem's Steinem's contributions to gender equality. Steinem's acclaimed career is most closely tied to her work telling women's stories, especially as co-founder of the feminist magazine Ms. Magazine in 1972. now 90 years old, she returns to the magazine as the first face of The Shift, a biannual social impact publication celebrates her return to the magazine. During the event, Steinem was presented with her cover image, shot by renowned photographers Ines & Vinoodh. They co-hosted the dinner along with Shilpa Yarlagadda, social entrepreneur and founder of Chiffon Inc. [The distinguished guests included supermodel Irina Shayk, author and host Padma Lakshmi, actress AnaSophia Robb, stylist Sara Slutsky, climate activist Sofia Lea, and YouTuber and designer Mai Pham, among others.
“Gloria's legacy is a master class in resilience and speaking out, a playbook for boldness for young changemakers,” Pham told Marie Claire.

The evening's celebration toasted not only Steinem, the brand's “first changemaker,” but also Vicki Tsai, founder of the skin care brand Tatcha. Thanks to Tsai's early partnership with the nonprofit Room to Read, Tatcha has provided more than 10 million school days to girls in low-income communities around the world. I am deeply grateful to Gloria Steinem for paving the way for women like me. I was deeply moved to sit next to her, surrounded by social entrepreneurs, activists, and artists dedicated to a brighter future.” I am humbled and filled with hope that she has been recognized as a change-maker.”
