Prince William and David Beckham Join Hands for a Good Cause and Send Fans into a Frenzy

Prince William has a new bearded sidekick.

Prince William celebrated the introduction of two new London Air Ambulance helicopters with David Beckham on Tuesday, October 1.

For those wondering why Beckham was there, the soccer legend was part of a campaign to raise funds for two new state-of-the-art air ambulances, a fundraising effort that brought in a staggering 16 million pounds (roughly $21.2 million). [According to a Kensington Palace press release, the London Air Ambulance Charity's older model was desperately needed to be replaced so as not to affect “the outcomes of thousands of patients each year.”

Prince William had previously served as an air ambulance pilot before devoting himself to full-time duties at the palace, an event that caused some fans to fantasize about a dramatic royal rescue.

“I would 100% fall out of the gorge if David and William would rescue me,” one person commented on the prince's Instagram post.

“If they rescue me, I might throw myself into the ocean. #If I don't aspire to this level of confidence to land a helicopter on a roof (and look so cool and hot while doing it) I want for nothing,” a third William fan wrote on X, sharing an old video of the prince flying ahead of Tuesday's event.

Sadly, the Top Gun-like dream was shattered when the prince, who is a patron of the London Air Ambulance Charity, was unable to fly the helicopter due to bad weather.

However, the Prince and his friends were able to get inside the helicopter and check out (and signed inside), and they also got to meet the medical and pilot crew during their visit.

Beckham said on Prince William's Instagram Reel of the event that he was “very honored” to be “asked by Prince William to get involved,” adding that the charity is “close to his heart” as a Londoner.

The Beckhams have long been fans of the Royal Family, and David once waited in line for over 12 hours to see Queen Elizabeth's coffin with the public before her funeral in 2022.

He has also attended other royal events over the years, including the 2022 Earthshot Awards ceremony in Boston and the 2020 video call for the Prince and Princess of Wales' “Heads Up” mental health campaign. David and Victoria Beckham also attended both Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding in 2011 and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018.

At this rate, there will likely be another William + Becks appearance in the future, but until then, fans will always have this beard moment.
