Does Sabrina Carpenter wear a wig?
I was so busy dancing at Sabrina Carpenter's Short 'n Sweet Tour Madison Square Garden show this week that I didn't have time to ask many questions. And which designer created Carpenter's bombshell bodysuit? (It's custom-made by Victoria's Secret and Patou, by the way.) But other fans saw how lovely Carpenter's bouncy blond curls were from start to finish and ran to Google with the same query: does Sabrina Carpenter wear a wig?
Throughout the 21-song set list, Carpenter's signature blonde hair was teased at the crown and wrapped around an oversized ringlet, with feathery curtain bangs framing her face. Her hair has volume, matching the avant-pinup girl styling she adopted during the Short 'n Sweet era. TikToks, which boast hundreds of thousands of views, have attempted to “expose” Carpenter for wearing a wig on stage and zoomed in on her “Juno” performance to find extended tracks.
Wig Gate, as I now call it, is more of a swirl than Carpenter's braids. Many commentators have suggested the possibility of a Sabrina Carpenter wig (or extension). There is no way her real hair could look that great, they imply.
This is unfair for several reasons. First, because such an armchair hair analysis would seem to suggest that the artist is deceiving her fans. Second, because dozens of artists, from Meghan C. Stallion to Lady Gaga to Nicki Minaj to Dolly Parton, one of Carpenter's own influences, have incorporated accurately styled wigs into their art. (Dolly Parton's wigs are also a staple of her everyday style.) Third, as one sober TikToker points out, wigs can protect hair under stress from nightly heat styling on a massive tour, for example, or they can maintain a personal style.
Finally, I don't know about you, but shouldn't the time spent analyzing every hair follicle on Sabrina Carpenter's head be spent working? I like to find out which NARS lipstick Taylor Swift wears or how Carpenter used Prada lip balm in her “Please Please Please” music video, but when this wig search is completely speculative, it feels like a witch hunt. It feels like a witch hunt.
Carpenter hasn't said a word about enhancing her long, always blonde and slightly curly hair while on tour, starting in Columbus, Ohio, on September 23, with Evany Frausto, and then Scott King, as she prepares to step into the spotlight. The two hairstylists shared photos of Carpenter onstage after the performance on Instagram, and King even detailed the tools he used on the “Taste” singer's hair (a Wavytalk blow dryer, the label's 5-in-1 curling wand and a wide-tooth comb for the final brush-out). Both stylists also received exactly this comment: “Hair so good that wigs are suspect”
.
We have contacted King to clarify whether Carpenter is wearing a wig, extensions, or neither. If we receive a reply, we will update this article. For what it's worth, this hairstylist “likes” a few comments under his Instagram product breakdown and indicates that Carpenter is wearing blonde extensions on his natural hair rather than a full wig. One liked by King went on, “You're going to have to shoot a video styling the extensions because the blends are [clap emoji].”
In conclusion, let's stop asking whether Sabrina Carpenter wears wigs and focus on the really important beauty question: what hair care practices does she follow to keep her bangs perfect?
