Are “Love is Blind” Season 7's Monica Davis and Steven Richardson still dating?
“Love is Blind” Season 7 Episodes 1-6 Spoilers Ahead Netflix's reality show “Love is Blind” is designed to let you date someone you would never pursue in the real world. Among the cast of “Love is Blind” Season 7, the couple that epitomizes that concept is Monica Davis and Steven Richardson, a 37-year-old sales executive and 34-year-old electrical engineer who quickly hit it off with an interesting conversation about race and curiosity in the pod.
However, there are early signs of discord once they arrive in Mexico, and fans are wondering if the two will be up at the altar to say “I do” by the season finale on October 23. Read on for a breakdown of “Love is Blind” Season 7 stars Monica and Steven's relationship, including clues as to whether they are still together after filming.
From the beginning, Monica and Steven's personalities are immediately attracted to each other, even though their lifestyles suggest they are polar opposites. Monica admits in her confessions throughout the season that she tends to seek physical connection first, and that she is concerned about her past boyfriend's history and where he has traveled. However, as they talk about the importance of communication, not striving for perfection, and recognizing each other's flaws in the relationship, she becomes attracted to Steven. Even when Stephen emotionally betrays his ex-girlfriend on their first date, whom he feels is “not good enough for him,” and admits that he “technically has the title of cheater,” Monica praises him for being open with her. Monica even says that he may be blaming her too much for his past.
When the two begin discussing politics, it even gets smooth (though they may forget that this season takes place in Washington, DC). Veteran Stephen describes himself as a centrist and admits that he voted for Trump in 2016 because he “hated Hillary.” But he says he “despised the way Trump handled himself in office” and voted for Biden in 2020. He also “happily admits” that his first vote was not the most educated one.
Then the conversation turns to the issue of race. Steven identifies as “mostly” white, but has previously discovered that at least half of his father's DNA is from West Africa, rather than being partially Italian, as his family claimed growing up. Monica enjoys this story and the research Stephen has since done on West African countries. Since Monica's mother is Honduran and her father is African-American, she appreciates Stephen's openness to experiencing new cultures. (There is even a scene where they both describe her as a mongrel dog, and people are up in arms on Twitter.) By the end of the day, they are already throwing hints about a possible future engagement.
In episode 3, in the men's and women's lounge, they call each other boyfriend and girlfriend, and Steven tells the men he loves her and is thinking about having children. In the pod they exchange the words “I love you” and promise to get weird together (just the right catchphrase for this couple). The scene where they sob after saying those three words is a genuinely sweet moment, and so is the proposal that follows, with Stephen's line being very smooth: “Monica Jade Davis, if you're starting to get a little tired of that last name, will you marry me?” . She said yes, and in her reply speech said, “I love that you are so proud of the fact that you are barely that black.”
Before the in-person unveiling, Monica admits that she comes easily, but the two seem to get along well despite their nerves. She gestures well, and Stephen even gives her the “shirt on his back” he was wearing when he arrived at the pod.
Unfortunately, as the two spend time together in Mexico, cracks begin to appear in their love bubble. For one thing, Monica brings up Steven's blue-collar job and two-year degree again, testifying that it “doesn't matter,” but whether it matters in the real world is still a bit of a question. Still, the two spend their date time on acupuncture, helping the acupuncturist insert needles into each other and starting an endless conversation comparing acupuncture and Steven's erection. (There is also a memorable scene in which Stephen refers to quantum physicist Garrett as “middle-class Chris Evans.”) Steven also gives a really sound response to the woman's interrogation, saying that Monica makes him feel like he's on cloud nine.
Later, however, when they return to the suite, the mood switches: they reflect on the party, Stephen gives his thoughts on their relationship, and eventually Monica cuts in and says she is speechless. Obviously this isn't the first time she's called him “chatty,” but it's quite a 180 from what we saw in the pod. (On the day of the proposal, Monica even said that she liked that he was chatty.) Monica seems quite annoyed when she tells him that they have to “share space” and that “it's getting kind of uninteresting. ”They change the subject to another couple, Alex and Tim, but whether Monica was just tired, or whether there were deeper issues that had not been resolved by the end of episode 6 It is unclear if there were.
The preview for the next episode teases that Monica and Steven will have a rough time in the future, including a scene where Steven tells a crying Monica that she made a “stupid decision.” We will have to wait and see how the season plays out, but it appears that the two will arrive at the altar, as their hands were shown in a flash during the ceremony.
As for clues after the show ends, we can only speculate based on social media snooping. As of the week of the Season 7 premiere, the two are following each other on Instagram, but their feeds both seem to be giving the singles action. Monica has posted bikini photos and snapshots of her travels from London to Mexico City to the Bahamas in the past year, while Steven's is all about good times with friends, fur babies, and a dachshund called Clementine. Still, at this point, the two could go either way.
