Prince Philip loved to play pranks during his lifetime.

A few months after the late Duke of Edinburgh's death in April 2021, his royal grandchildren appeared in the documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers and recalled amusing anecdotes about Philip.

“Instead of a mustard pot, there was a mustard tube.

“And he would squeeze your hands together to launch the mustard to the ceiling. He used to get in trouble from my grandmother [the late Queen Elizabeth II] for covering most of the places where we would have lunch or whatever with mustard on the ceiling.”

Zara Tindall said of the prank, “I don't really remember what he said, but he ended up slapping his hands ....... It splattered all over the ceiling.”

Philip was not the only elder royal with a keen sense of humor.

The queen herself famously teased American tourists in Balmoral. They did not recognize her and initiated a conversation about whether they had ever met the queen, but she said of the royal guard who was with her at the time, “Well, I have never met her, but Dick here does on a regular basis.”

Meanwhile, the Queen Mother was also quite a fun-loving woman; after the Dauphin's death in 2002, Prince William recalled his great-grandmother's parting words as she left for college. The prince said, “When we said goodbye, she said. 'If you have any good parties, invite me. But I couldn't. I knew a hundred times that if I invited her, she would dance under the table."
