Read MorePrince Harry just won a major victory in court on September 23 when a judge ruled that his visa papers were closed to the public, but for those wondering why anyone would care about the Duke of Sussex's immigration status, here's why.
Some of the things revealed in Prince Harry's Netflix documentary and memoir, “Spare” (remember the story about the magic mushrooms at Courteney Cox's house?), are that a right-wing think tank called the Heritage Foundation caused the Duke's U.S. visa application to be questioned.
According to the Daily Mail, the group “claimed that Harry may have lied on the form in the section asking if he was a drug user” and sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for “failing to disclose a Freedom of Information request for Harry's file.”
However, the media reported that U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols ruled in Harry's favor, emphasizing his “reasonable privacy interests” regarding his immigration documents and ensuring that these files would not be released.
After a five-month review, Judge Nichols found that even though “Spare,” which sold an astounding 1.4 million copies on its release date, exposed his past drug use, it did not diminish his right to privacy regarding his immigration information.
According to the Daily Mail, “For reasons discussed, the public has no strong interest in the disclosure of the Duke's immigration records,” wrote the Nichols court order.
Prince Harry's victory comes at a time when the Duke is visiting New York this week to participate in activities with organizations like the Diana Award, African Parks, and the HALO Trust.
On Tuesday, Prince Harry called on social media companies to take responsibility for the ongoing mental health crisis among teens, while at the same time admitting that he has been known to “get himself into trouble.”
“I know one or two things about that,” he quipped.
