Raven-Symoné Says Demi Lovato Wasn't the “Best Person” in “Sonny With a Chance”

Raven Cymone and Demi Lovato had a raw conversation as part of the new documentary Child Star, which Lovato co-directed.

“You were a guest on my show ‘Sonny with a Chance,’” the “Confident” singer recalled of their conversation. She was referring to the Disney Channel show she appeared on from 2009 to 2011.

“When I first called you to talk about this project, I saw you on ‘That's So Raven’ and I was so inspired ...... I was like, 'I'm so excited to be a part of this project. Lovato continued about Raven-Symoné.

“You were like, 'Bitch, I was on your show! ' And I was like, 'Oh my God, she was. And I was like, 'Oh my God, she was. But part of my disconnect was that I don't remember much about the show I was on. But I do remember how hard it was to work with her.

Lovato has been open about her struggles with mental health and addiction over the years, including five psychiatric hospitalizations.

In response, Raven Simonet agreed that Lovato was not the easiest person to work with, but expressed compassion for their feelings at the time.

“I mean... You weren't the nicest person. Welcome!” ' It wasn't like that. The Cheetah Girls star said. 'But I didn't hold it against you because I'm that kind of person and I've been in the business as long as you have and I understand the glare in your eyes. I just thought, 'There's something going on.'"

In “Child Star,” Lovato sits down with celebrities who began their careers at an early age, including Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Alison Stoner, and JoJo Siwa.

“I didn't think child stardom would be traumatic, and it's not traumatic for anyone, but it was for me,” Lovato said in a cover interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her motivation for making the film.

“Child Star” is available on Hulu.
