Singer Chapel Lawn opens up about her previous struggles with mental health and why it was so difficult to get the help she needed when she lived in the Midwest.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Roane said that growing up in a very religious culture in Missouri made it difficult for her to feel she could be her true self.
“I struggled to feel understood. I pushed the gay part of me down so deep because I thought it couldn't be me,” Roan told the magazine at the time, adding, ”I felt very, very alone.”
“When I was growing up, it was like, ‘Gay means a flamboyant gay guy,’ and lesbian means ‘a butch girl who looks masculine.’ There was no such thing as queerness,” she continued. And I was very mentally ill and suicidal for years. I think you need to see a psychiatrist. You need God. You need God.
Now a bona fide 26-year-old superstar and the music industry's new “it” girl, Roan says she frequently sought mental health care, especially as she worked through the often harsh reality of fame.
“I'm in therapy twice a week. I went to a psychiatrist last week. She diagnosed me with severe depression.” But I have all the symptoms of someone with severe depression.”
The singer explained that her “whole life has changed” now that she's famous, adding that her success has taken a toll on her mental health and that “everything I really like to do now comes with baggage.”
“When I want to go thrifting, I have to book security and prepare myself that this is not normal,” Lorne explained.
“You go to the park, you do pilates, you do yoga.
In a recent interview with The Face, the singer admitted that she hopes she doesn't actually win the Grammy Awards, considered the most prestigious award in music.
“My mom wants to go to the Grammys or the Brits,” Roan explained. 'Because then everyone won't be on my ass: see, guys, you did it and you didn't win, so goodbye!' Bye! You don't have to do this again!”
.
In the same interview, Roan explained that he was determined to ensure that his career was “sustainable.”
“I feel ambitious about making this sustainable,” she explained. 'That's my main goal right now. My brain is like, let's quit now and take next year off. This industry and the arts thrive on mental illness, burnout, overworking, overexertion, and lack of sleep. The more unhealthy you are, the bigger you grow. Isn't that so f*cked up?
“Ambition is how do I do this without hating myself, my work, my life,” she added.
“Because right now it's not working. I'm just scrambling to feel healthy.”Much has been written about the hobbies enjoyed by members of the Royal Family. For example, Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, said that his mo...
