Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas get divorced.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are officially divorced.

According to court documents obtained by People this week, a Florida judge formally declared that their marriage was “irretrievably broken” and that the settlement terms agreed to by the former spouses were “in the best interest of the parties and this family.” The judge also allowed the former couple to waive the 20-day waiting period before final judgment, writing that “the marriage between the parties is dissolved and the parties are reinstated as single.”

Details of the settlement were confidential, and it took a year to reach an agreement (Jonas initially filed for divorce in early September 2023). Although Jonas and Turner initially issued a joint statement that the divorce was “amicable” and a “unanimous decision,” the divorce quickly became messy. In particular, the couple's dispute over custody of daughters Willa, 3, and Delphine, 2, became public when Turner filed a lawsuit accusing Jonas of “unreasonable retention.”

According to Turner's suit, she and Jonas had agreed to make England their “forever home” for their daughters before they separated, but by the time she filed for divorce, Jonas had apparently changed his mind.

In October 2023, the former spouses reached an agreement on temporary custody and issued a joint statement. After productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that our children will spend equal time in loving homes in both the United States and the United Kingdom.” We look forward to being great co-parents.” He explained. Turner formally withdrew his wrongful retention complaint in January 2024.

Details of the divorce negotiations and settlement have remained largely private since the beginning of the year, but Turner opened up about the divorce in an interview with British Vogue in May, calling the days following the divorce coverage “the worst few days of my life.”

“I remember I couldn't leave because I was on set and I was contracted to stay on set for two more weeks,” she explained.

“I couldn't get to my kids because they were in the U.S. and I had to finish Joanne. And then all these articles started coming out."

‘I was like, ’I'm not going to leave, I'm not going to leave, I'm not going to leave.'

The “Game of Thrones” actress added that during the divorce, she “didn't know if [she] could do it,” and called her lawyer and said, “I can't do this. I just can't do it.”

“And finally, after two weeks of me rambling, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for,” Turner explained.

For his part, Jonas has publicly shut down speculation that his new album is about Turner.

“I'm not trying to come for anybody with this album,” he said in an interview with Billboard in August. 'I'm not trying to come for anybody with this album. I have a beautiful life that I'm grateful for.”
