Post Malone Praises Taylor Swift's “Fortnite” Video Director for Best Collaboration at the 2024 MTV VMAs

Taylor Swift and Post Malone won the first MTV VMA award of 2024 for their collaboration “Fortnight,” the lead single from Swift's album The Tortured Poets Department. Both stars were present to accept the Moonperson award, and the two presented flowers to each other during their acceptance speeches.

The “Cruel Summer” singer began her speech with a memorial to those who lost their lives and loved ones during 9/11 and then thanked those she worked with on the video. He mentioned recent collaborations with artists such as Beyonce, Luke Combs, and Morgan Warren.

“There's a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone's favorite collaborator in the music world. 'It's because you are ridiculously talented. You are so versatile and the most down-to-earth person. Frankly, you're very polite. It took me a while to get him to stop calling me 'ma'am.'”

The folklorist then stepped aside and asked Malone if he had anything to say, to which Malone quickly replied, “Yes, ma'am.”

“Taylor is ...... Ugh ....... I'm at a loss for words,” the ‘Levii's Jeans’ singer began.

“Taylor is ...... Ugh ...... I'm speechless. The amount of work, care, and love she puts into everything she does."

”She is a true inspiration.

“I saw her tied to an operating table in one of her music videos, and she directed a music video from there and was pretty badass,” he continued.

“I just wanted to say, ‘Thank you so much for listening, and thank you so much, Taylor.’”

Swift has directed several of her music videos over the years, first getting behind the camera as co-director of “Mine” in 2010. She also co-directed “Me!”, “You Need to Calm Down”, and the title track's Lover-era music video, and later directed “The Man” as a solo artist. Since then, Swift has directed most of her own videos, including her 2021 directorial debut, All Too Well: The Short Film.

The pop superstar made history at this year's VMAs, becoming the most decorated solo artist ever. She was nominated for 12 awards at the ceremony and won seven, surpassing Beyoncé's record of 25 as a solo artist and bringing her total number of moonpersons throughout her career from 23 to 30.

Among the hitmaker's awards was the coveted Video of the Year award, for which “Fortnite” was a contender. By winning this award, Swift became the first artist to win the award five times in the category.
