Read MoreAubrey Plaza and Stevie Nicks referenced Taylor Swift's political strategy.
The two stars put their own spin on the “childless cat lady” reference in an Instagram post hours after Swift endorsed presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
In case you missed it, Swift formally announced her intention to vote for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz after the vice presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. To that end, she posted a photo from the TIME Person of the Year cover shoot holding her cat, Benjamin Button, and signed the message “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”
Recall, Swift's endorsement of the Democratic candidate in the 2018 midterm elections led to a significant surge in voter registration, so Plaza and Nicks clearly saw an opportunity for their message to have a significant impact in the wake of Swift's message.
Plaza kept it simple and to the point by posting a photo of herself with the late Grumpy Cat, with whom she once co-starred in “Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.” She captioned the photo “HARRIS 🇺🇸 WALZ” and let the rest of the image speak for itself.
Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac's rocker posted a photo with his dog and wrote, “As my friend @taylorswift so eloquently said, now is the time to research and choose a candidate that fits you and your beliefs. There are 54 days until the election. Be sure to register as an elector! Your vote in this election may be one of the most important things you ever do.”
She signed her post, “Stevie Nicks, childless dog lady.”
The phrase “childless cat lady” was an ironic reference to a controversial statement by J.D. Vance that resurfaced in 2021, when he used the phrase to qualify some of the most senior Democratic politicians, including Kamala Harris.
Jennifer Aniston publicly condemned Vance's remarks on Instagram Stories when they first resurfaced in July.
Aniston, Plaza, Nicks, and Swift are Anna Wintour and Tory Burch, Matt Damon and Lin-Manuel Miranda, John Legend, Charlie XCX, Spike Lee, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda Viola Davis, Mindy Kaling, Pink, Michelle Obama, along with many others, are just a handful of celebrities who have endorsed Harris.
Donald Trump supporters include Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, and Hulk Hogan.
