Emily in Paris” Season 5: Everything We Know
“Emily in Paris” Season 4 Part 2 Spoilers Ahead On September 12, 2024, “Emily in Paris” Season 4 Part 2 was released, bringing to a close the first two-part season in Netflix drama history. After a short wait, the streaming giant's fashionable series returned with some exciting new characters (including a dreamy new love interest for Emily) and a switch of settings, as Emily finally uses the PTO for a vacation to Rome, Italy. French first lady Brigitte Macron made a cameo appearance.
Of course, superfans who immediately binged the guilty pleasure TV show are now eagerly awaiting news of Emily's future, especially after being alerted to the possibility of changes to Emily in Rome. Below is everything we know so far about “Emily in Paris” Season 5.
Short answer: not yet; Netflix has yet to announce whether “Emily in Paris” has been renewed for season 5 as of the season 4 part 2 premiere. But it is hard to imagine the streaming giant saying goodbye to one of its biggest shows. According to The Hollywood Reporter, if the streaming company is waiting for viewership numbers, the odds seem good for “Emily in Paris.” The magazine also noted that viewer numbers were down from the Season 3 premiere, but that may have something to do with the fact that only half of the season was available, rather than all 10 episodes.
In another hint at a follow-up to “Emily in Paris,” the series has already added a new addition to season five: in May 2024, Variety reported that as part of the Cannes Film Festival's amfAR Gala, a walk-on role in the show's fifth season was auctioned off The auction was held at the Cannes Film Festival. The winning bidder in the auction reportedly paid 250,000 euros to appear in the series, and presenters Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson said that season 5 is scheduled to begin filming in mid-2025.
However, a source said at the time that Netflix had not yet authorized production of a fifth season and that the auction listing was “courtesy of [series creator] Darren Star.” The auction site was later updated to state that the set visit was “contingent upon a Season 5 pickup.” Nevertheless, we will be watching for news about Emily's future in the coming months.
Lily Collins (Emily), Ashley Park (Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Guery ( Luc), and William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), the series' core cast will all return for season 5. Newcomers Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello), Talia Besson (Genevieve), and Anna Galiena (Antonia) are also likely to return after their refreshing debuts in season 4 part 2.
Unfortunately, at least one fan favorite may be an afterthought in the upcoming season. Speaking to Glamour after Season 4, Darren Star revealed that he “doesn't know” how much Camille (Camille Lazat) will appear in Season 5, as it turns out she is not pregnant with Gabrielle's child and has decided to adopt instead.
“I think she thought she was going to have a baby, dealt with that disappointment, discovered that there was a way that Gabrielle didn't want to pursue it, and (as a result) she realized this is what she wanted to do,” Starr told the outlet. 'So I don't know what's going to happen to her in Season 5. I don't know what's going to happen to her in Season 5. But that's kind of where she's headed.”
The finale of “Emily in Paris” Season 4 Part 2 has several threads dangling that the series should address in future episodes. Emily will temporarily move to Rome, where she will run the firm of Agence Grato and focus on her six-month contract with Muratori (her new lover Marcello's family business). Mindy has returned to Shanghai for the first time in several years after a viral clip led her to serve as a judge in the singing competition that led to her self-exile. Camille is neither dating Gabrielle nor pregnant, but she has new ambitions to raise her child as a single mother.
Also, in a truly romantic cliffhanger, Gabriel heads to Rome to try to win Emily back. Emily and Marcello are in a good place, because Emily's work-life balance issues have overcome her and she is stronger than ever.
Despite that ending shot of Emily leaving her cell phone behind and riding Marcello's Vespa, Darren Star confirmed in a post-season interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Emily's move to Rome is not permanent.
“She's going to be in Rome for a while. But she has not changed her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome,” he told the magazine. 'Agence Gratow has set up an office in Rome. They can be in more than one city, and Emily can spend time in Rome. She can also spend time in Paris. She won't leave Paris.”
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Starr reiterated Emily's return to “City of Lights” and promised at least a few more episodes in Italy.
“I think there's no doubt we'll see more Emily in Rome if there's a Season 5,” Starr told the outlet. 'Emily is there now. She has an office, and I think the storyline is about Rome at the moment. So there will be more time spent in Italy, but that doesn't mean she's leaving Paris.”
Starr also threw in a few hints toward potential storylines for season 5, including the reveal of Alfie's girlfriend and confirming that Alfie will definitely be back in the new episodes. Asked if the mystery girlfriend will make an appearance, Starr teased, “We'll find out next season.”
