The 2024 Emmy Awards' Best Beauty Looks Define Fall's Biggest Hair and Makeup Trends
[The Emmy Awards ceremony was only held in January because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Now, the awards ceremony, to be held on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, has resumed as scheduled. But unlike the previous red carpet, which featured pretty pink lipstick and sophisticated hairstyles, the best looks from the 76th Annual Emmy Awards prove to be a lesson in fall 2024 beauty trends.
Bumpy lipstick, red nail polish, and 90s blowouts were reinvented by some of the industry's most talented makeup artists, hairstylists, and nail professionals. Brown lipsticks, generally associated with fall, were tinged with shades of maroon, as evidenced by Laverne Cox. As evidence, short, square, natural nails replaced the long acrylic nails seen on Laverne Cox. And fresh, rich girlie blondes seemed to dominate the hair color cycle.

The red carpet host wore a monochromatic makeup look, brightening her vampy maroon lipstick with hot pink eyeshadow and red blush, a huge makeup trend for fall 2024. Rose Marie Swift, founder of RMS, once told Marie Claire, “Pink is too soft, and red just gives your cheeks a bloody color.”
Classic red-blue gets a cherry twist in Olympic athletes. Not only that, she also incorporated a subtle smoky eye with soft brown eyeshadow. Makeup artist Dani Parks previously shared, “The espresso and latte makeup that was so popular last season is being taken even further this fall.”
The “Fallout” actress not only showed up at the Emmys with a gorgeous vampy lip (much like Cox's, we might add), but also with a jet-black nail polish. This deep shade was everywhere on the Spring 2025 runway, appearing on Christian Cowan, Ruhl, and Susan Alexandra.
“Put down the curling iron and use velcro and hot rollers to add volume and bounce,” hairstylist Marc Mena told us. It appears that Lakshmi took his advice and did this red carpet blowout.
“We were inspired by her Ralph Lauren gown and the vibe of the evening was effortless elegance and high shine,” said hairstylist Marissa Marino in a press release shared with Marie Claire. If you want to recreate Gomez's sleek, straight style, you'll need to have FEKKAI Brilliant Gloss Glass Hair Anti-Frizz Oil Serum on standby.
Koon's makeup may have been minimal, but her glassy skin deserves a spot on our list. Makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo explains, “Carrie has drier skin, especially since she's been working nonstop and flying to Los Angeles.” To get that red carpet glow, she used the G.M. Collin Aqua Mask. The Aqua Mask, which contains essential minerals, has a refreshing gel texture that provides immediate and lasting hydration to dry skin, visibly restoring smoothness and suppleness while strengthening the skin's barrier function.” Sold.
Jennifer Aniston always looks great on the red carpet, and this may be one of her best looks. (See: Oscar de la Renta's naked dress and blonde hair, with a $345 moisturizer for her skin.
Sofia Vergara brought her bomb blowout and doe eyes to the red carpet for the 2024 Emmy Awards. These lashes are not natural. Makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani used KISS Lash Couture Naked Drama (taffeta) on the outer corners of the eyes to create a cat-eye effect.
Ayo Edevili's dress was by an influential artist. Her hairstyles were likewise from influential artists. Hairstylist Miles Jeffries told “Marie Claire”: “To get this look, I had to do a lot of work in London. “To do this style, I used Covet & Mane Coveted tape-in extensions for volume with London color. When adding any kind of hair I always look for shape and balance.
Ayo's makeup doubled down on the high-shine finishes seen all over the red carpet. Says Ernesto Casillas, makeup artist at Charlotte Tilbury. “I came up with the idea of reflecting the black of the print in the eye area with the eyeliner. The eyes are the center of the look and the glowing complexion is its backdrop."
