What Happened in the “Bachelorette” Finale: What You Need to Know About Jen Tran's End of Season
“The Bachelor” Season 21 Finale Spoilers Ahead September 3, 2024 is a date that will go down in Bachelor Nation history thanks to The Bachelorette's season 21 finale. For the past several months, the dating reality TV series has promised viewers a finale like never before seen in Bachelor franchise history, and the conclusion of Jen Tran's season fulfilled that promise. However, it upset the entire fandom (and even the casual Bachelor viewer) from the major revelations about Jen Tran's relationship with Devin Strader. To understand the ongoing drama and backlash surrounding Jen's Bachelorette finale, read on.
Most of The Bachelorette finale seemed like business as usual: After ending her relationship with runner-up Marcus Sjoberg, Jen seemed excited to end the season by being proposed to by finalist Devin. She even decided to switch things up by proposing to Devin instead of letting him propose to her, fulfilling the show's season-long promise of a first moment for the franchise.
But instead of a big moment, the Bachelorette finale switched to a live After the Final Rose special to reveal that Jen and Devin had broken up in the months between the proposal in Hawaii and the finale's broadcast. As they continued talking, Jen claimed that his behavior while the show was on the air made it seem like he “didn't give a shit” about the breakup. She said, “You post about the show and have a great old time, and yet I am heartbroken to see the lies you tell me every Monday night on TV.”
Devin said later in the special, “I know that I have failed you in many ways, as you said, in that I have done things that have diminished who you are. And you can sit here and say I'm a liar, this and that.”
Even before the finale, fans had speculated that Maria was dating one of Jen's season suitors. In recent weeks, Maria has reportedly been seen with Jeremy Simon (one of Jen's suitors, who was eliminated after “Hometown”). While it is common for “Bachelor Nation” stars to hang out (both Maria and Jeremy are based in N.Y.C.), “After the Final Rose” has hinted that Devin may have also met Maria recently.
At one point in the former couple's confrontation, Jen questioned whether he was feeling the pain of the breakup. Some fans have demanded a public apology to Jen from the producers and have vowed to stop watching the Bachelor franchise altogether.
