Lady Gaga Tries the Dud Hat Trend in Paris

Ah, Lady Gaga. The woman at the opposite end of the casual dresser spectrum, a woman whose mere presence is a performance. And this week, she's playing the “normal person.” Lady Gaga touched down in Paris on Monday, July 22, in an unusually low-key outfit, wearing a trendy dad hat twice and black sunglasses. (According to Variety, Gaga is rumored to be performing at the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony on July 26.) Of course, even dressed down, she still looked high-fashion.

The superstar was photographed earlier in the day wearing a baggy jean jacket and a blue denim baseball cap. She added an element of glamour with black cat-eye Linda Farrow sunglasses.

She then swapped the shades for black Burberry aviators and replaced the outerwear with an oversized boxy leather jacket from Ducie. She also replaced her Celine cap with a slightly damaged black dado hat with no logo and replaced the shades with Burberry ones.

The dud hat trend is in full swing this summer. Katie Holmes wears a new dad hat almost every day and recently paired it with her favorite Madewell bag and ballet shoes. Jennifer Lawrence has also been wearing a dad hat all season long. Even Rihanna is putting her own spin on the baseball cap.

Dark sunglasses are a Gaga staple, but dad hats are a rarity in her wardrobe. Even off-duty, Gaga maintains an edgy, high-end punk style with leather Saint Laurent platform bootie heels and a Matrix-style trench coat. Perhaps her growing collection of dad hats is a sign of a new aesthetic for her upcoming album release.

Throughout the summer performances, Gaga has cycled through some fantastic headpieces. Her stage costume at last month's Nemacolin Summer Solstice event included a metallic gold palm leaf fascinator that hid half her face, various black feather headpieces that added at least a foot of height, and a sculptural abstract pink veil.

For her shows in Las Vegas this year and last year, Gaga wore a peacock-like headband, a crown of red jewels, and a giant showgirl headpiece. But theatrics aside, no headpiece was as startling as her father's hat.
