Gigi Hadid proves that a $2,200 floral dress and nostalgic $60 Vans sneakers are a perfect match

Whether she's dressed in a Method dresser on the red carpet or leaving after a shoot in Birkenstock clogs, Gigi Hadid is a notable style rule breaker. There are many unspoken rules in fashion, one of which is color (and print) coordination, but Hadid strayed from both yesterday, mixing floral and plaid Vans sneakers.

On Wednesday, July 24, Hadid was spotted hanging out with her best friend Leah McCarthy in New York City. While walking around, the supermodel was photographed wearing a timeless, summer-perfect floral dress: in Hadid's case, a long white beaded midi dress from Bode, a $2,200 sleeveless, slightly slouchy dress with a black bralette layered underneath.

Her choice of shoes is where Hadid gets experimental. Instead of heeled sandals or seasonal footwear like The Row flip-flops, the 29-year-old opted for black and gray checkered Vans slip-ons, a favorite from the early 2000s, which she paired with white ankle-length crew socks.

Gigi Hadid consistently accessorizes, whether she's experimenting with the horsegirl trend or running errands in sweatpants. For a casual hangout, she carried a bright yellow Miu Miu bag embellished with iridescent string-tin beaded charms, and to complete the look, she wore a green Rebalance Vintage trucker hat over her short blonde bob.

Whatever the occasion, Hadid opts for comfortable shoes, from coveted sneakers to sliding Birkenstock clogs, and on Tuesday, July 23, she paired a chic blue trench coat, teal crop top, and butter yellow pajama pants with ” ugly” shoes for the outing.

Before spending the night with McCarthy, Hadid posted #OOTD from her own store, Guest In Residence, in Noho. In a recent Instagram Story upload, the supermodel was spotted wearing a baby blue cashmere sweater over a Bode dress. The caption read, “If you're in NYC, come see us,” followed by information about the brand's end-of-summer sale.

It's hardly surprising that Hadid chose Vans checkerboard slip-ons for her latest outing. Not only are they easy to wear, but the nostalgia of the early 2000s is still going strong in the fashion world. Many celebrities, including Emily Rutkowski and Haley Bieber, love Vans sneakers as their off-duty shoes. Trends come and go, but the ever-popular Vans never falls off the radar. And they are the perfect (mis)match for patterned summer dresses.
