Lady Gaga's Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Costume Coated in Flamingo Pink Feathers

After much speculation, Lady Gaga is set to appear and perform at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games. Since arriving in Paris, the pop star has kept a low profile in casual attire, but Lady Gaga fans know that she does not usually wear baggy jeans and dad hats without purpose. But Lady Gaga's fans know she doesn't usually wear baggy jeans and dad hats without purpose.

On Friday, July 26, Lady Gaga was photographed from afar rehearsing with her team on the golden steps of Paris. In one snapshot, the “Rain On Me” singer was captured with a microphone in hand and dancers holding up pink feather plumes around her.

The decorative pompoms were later removed to reveal Dior's all-black ensemble underneath. At first glance, Lady Gaga is seen wearing a strapless bustier and matching micro-mini shorts with sheer black tights and long opera gloves that reach to her shoulders.

But being the fashion radical that she is, she went even further overboard by wearing a super-long feather cape in black and pink on the back. The train was so long and elaborate that her dancers climbed the stairs to show it in full.

From tip to toe, Lady Gaga's entire Olympic opening ceremony outfit was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior. Her dancers were also costumed by the French maison.

Gaga's allure was her bold red lips and pink blush. She wore her platinum blonde hair neatly coiffed and topped with a black feather antenna.

Shortly thereafter, as the opening ceremony of the Olympics began and guests lined up to watch the official competitors sail down the Seine, Lady Gaga performed the French song “Mon Truc En Plume” with all the panache of a flamingo feather.

Lady Gaga released a lengthy statement on her social media accounts explaining the significance of the song choice and costume. French ballerina-turned-singer Gigi Jeanmer premiered “Mon Truc En Plumes” in 1961, which translates to “My Thing With Feathers.” Jemmère also appeared in “Anything Goes,” and Gaga later re-recorded the song as her first jazz piece.

“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a special connection to the people of France and to singing French music. I have never wanted anything more than to create a performance that warms the heart of France, celebrates French art and music, and reminds everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth, Paris, on such a momentous occasion,” Lady Gaga wrote in a statement.

She also noted that the feathered pompoms the dancers carried were rented from the archives of Le Lido, a French cabaret theater, and that she worked closely with Dior on the custom-made costumes.

Lady Gaga called the opportunity to open the Olympics “the greatest honor,” adding that she spent hours immersed in French cabaret to nail the performance. She said, “I studied the choreography, which was a modern take on the French classics. When I was starting out, you wouldn't have known I was dancing at a French party in the '60s on the Lower East Side.

Lady Gaga's Seine sighting follows her numerous street-style appearances in the City of Light. Shortly after landing in Paris earlier this week, the award-winning performer was spotted being unremarkable in terms of fashion. In one instance, she wore an oversized black leather jacket, a dad cap, and black sunglasses.

While this pop star look has yet to hit the big stage as of press time, her soon-to-be big fashion moment at the opening ceremony was inspired by the panache of her attire at the Las Vegas residency and the recent Nemacolin Solstice event, and perhaps this stage was used to drop hints of her next Olympic look. For the past few months, the “Poker Face” singer has been dressed in vibrant costumes and circulating a variety of giant headpieces encrusted with pink and black feathers.

Lady Gaga's much-anticipated performance at the 2024 Olympics and rumored collaborations with R&B stars Aya Nakamura and Celine Dion are in the works. Birds of a feather flock together, and Lady Gaga happens to be black and pink.
