Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo attend the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics in “Wicked.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo did not follow the rules of someone else's style game under the Eiffel Tower at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

While hundreds of athletes descended the Seine in their official uniforms (including Team USA in Ralph Lauren), the stars of Wicked ignored the sporty dress code and instead dressed as their characters Elphaba and Glinda the Good Witch They decided to.

Working with longtime stylist Jason Bolden, Cynthia Erivo was ready for the Emerald City in a custom deep green strapless dress by Louis Vuitton. The shiny satin dress featured a corseted bodice and an angular full skirt with exaggerated hips. Elivo took color coordination seriously, matching the dress with a wide-brimmed slanted hat, pointed-toe pumps, and swirling green nail polish.

Ariana Grande, on the other hand, utilized the bubbly pink wardrobe of Glinda the Good Witch. She and her stylist, Mimi Cattrell, wore a Thom Browne dress with a high neckline, drop waist, and modest bow detailing. Grande wore modest white gloves, pointed-toe pink heels, and Swarovski jewelry. A small bow at the front of the dress matched the waist-length bow tied behind a low bun.

For Grande and Erivo, it is not too early to start promoting their November movie release in fashion. Ahead of the fall release of Wicked, the two appeared on the red carpet in pink and emerald outfits.

So far, the 2024 Paris Olympics has been as much a style competition as a sports festival. On the eve of the opening ceremony, the stars gathered in their best after-dark attire for a party at the Louis Vuitton Foundation museum. Zendaya sparkled in a beaded Louis Vuitton gown, while Serena Williams ditched tennis fashion for a sophisticated style mogul suit. The next day, Lady Gaga got her haute couture start in a black Christian Dior ensemble with a black bustier, black opera gloves, and flamingo-like pink feathers as her performance outfit for the opening ceremony.

So far, celebrities from Kaia Gerber to Chrissy Teigen have descended on the City of Light. Fashion has always been a crowd-pleasing sport, and between the many Olympic fashion collaborations, tricked-out team uniforms, and celebrity faces in the stands, this year's Olympics will be even more remarkable than the gold medals.
