According to Katie Holmes and her new tropical getup set, there are more chic ways to dress like a local tourist.

Holmes headed north from her Soho apartment for an early morning stroll on Manhattan's Upper West Side on Thursday, July 18. The actress and designer of the recent A.P.C. collection decided that she needed to dress appropriately for a vacation. Holmes' accessories incorporated the colors scattered throughout the prints of her tropical set. She chose plum-colored Yuni Buffa ballet slippers and her beloved Madewell bucket tote to match the florals printed on her outfit. She also added a blue baseball cap from the Gap x Dôen collaboration.

Between the Gap collaboration cap, dainty ballet shoes, and the aforementioned tropical matching set, Holmes was far from your average urban tourist. Although she wasn't venturing too far from her downtown apartment, her colorful day-trip styling is consistent with her recent outfits: upon returning from her trip in early June, she risked the trip in white wide-leg jeans and a matching travel bag. Shortly thereafter, she stopped in Paris for Couture Fashion Week, where she was casual in a utility jacket, wide-leg jeans, and a white leather bag. Her hidden message: there's no need to look different when you're on the move.

Aside from a quick trip to Paris and a stop in Italy in a bohemian maxi dress, Holmes has spent this season tapping into the summer big-shirt trend and remixing her favorite 90s slip dresses. She also had a formal moment at a Chanel event in Tribeca, where she tried on a see-through LBD. When showing her casual side, Holmes frequently (and proudly) repeats outfits.
