Red carpets and runways are usually where summer trends begin and styling hacks are introduced. But for models like Gigi Hadid, the off-duty looks are just as informative. Case in point: this weekend, Gigi Hadid unintentionally styled a slip skirt with a chic outfit for an outdoor dinner.

Hadid was one of several guests who toasted longtime friend Leah McCarthy at an intimate barbecue on Sunday, July 7. In a photo posted by her friend, the model can be seen holding up a watermelon pink cocktail and wearing a blueprint of a noble yet relaxed look.

Her outfit begins with a sheer V-neck sweater that appears to be from the cashmere brand Guest in Residence. She loosely pulls it in over a champagne slip skirt with ruffles at the hem, and completes the look with a layered heart and a custom charm necklace by Jackie Esh. (Hadid is known as a fan of personalized charm jewelry and gave Taylor Swift a custom ring two weeks ago.)

Hadid's slip-skirt outfit included only four items (which could be seen in the post, anyway), but they spoke volumes. Rich textured champagne satin! Cashmere! Gold charms! -- all were lightly contrasted without being too luxurious, as befitting the relaxed outdoor energy of the party. The sweater was slightly baggier than the slip skirt, showing off the latter's elegant shape and fabric equally loosely. In other words, the garments were the perfect play of juxtaposition in a creamy neutral palette.

Of all the models strolling the sidewalks of New York City and dominating Instagram and TikTok, Gigi Hadid (and her stylist, Mimi Cattrell) is the most adept at creating creative outfits out of everyday items. Just as she showed off her slip-skirt styling this weekend, she also demonstrated how to wear a sweater dress over jeans during a late May TV appearance. The key for her was to opt for a light button-front silhouette. Genius.

Shortly thereafter, Hadid also proved that 2024 It sneakers and a white skirt are the perfect combination. Her lineup included Adidas Samba and tiered lace layers.
