Season 2 of "Severance": Everything We Know

Season 2 of "Severance": Everything We Know

Turn on the music and heat up the waffle maker: Severance is finally back. Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, the Apple TV+ workplace thriller premiered in February 2022 and quickly took the Internet by storm as viewers were sucked into the world of Lumon Industries. Season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger as the "disconnected" floor innies (work selves with no out-of-office memories) uncovered a major secret about their outies (or out-of-office selves) and their connection to Lumon's upper management.

The second season has faced several postponements, and the show's rabid fan base (the Sevvies' SevHeads) are eager to get new clues from the mysterious box called Lumon. And now that the first air date for Season 2 has been set, it looks to be a must-see TV series this winter. Ahead of the second season of "Severance," here's everything we know about the next installment.

Severance Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 17, 2025. Streamers have announced a long-awaited rerun in July 2024, so fans will have plenty of time to rewatch and speculate.

Like other Apple TV+ shows like "Ted Lasso" and "Shrinking," "Severance" will air weekly after the first few episodes drop off.

The second season of Severance will consist of 10 episodes, with one episode added after the nine-episode premiere season. Season 2 will begin with two episodes on January 17 and will air one episode each Friday until the finale on March 21.

All of the main cast members of "Severance" will return for Season 2. After the shocking cliffhanger of the Season 1 finale, Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) work on a severed floor under the watchful eye of supervisor Seth Milhick (Tramel Tillman) Continuing. Harmony Covell (Patricia Arquette) and Bart Goodman (Christopher Walken) are among the group's higher-ups, also guarding the many secrets of the returning Lumon.

Meanwhile, Outie Mark's sister Devon (Jen Tullock), her husband Ricken (Michael Charnas), and Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman), who (spoiler alert) is revealed to be his wife in the shocking finale, also remain regular characters.

According to Variety, Season 2 will also add several new cast members in unannounced roles, including Gwendoline Christie from "Game of Thrones," Merritt Wever from "Unbelievable," and veteran actor Bob Balaban. Other new additions include Robbie Benson, Stefano Caranante, John Noble, and Olafur Dari Olafsson.

On July 10, Apple TV+ released a cryptic date announcement video that begins with employees from each disconnected floor boarding Lumon's elevator, along with a narration of Helly's retirement pledge. After a few glimpses of future scenes (Mark running, someone who looks like Helly in the air duct, etc.), Gwendolyn Christie's character appears. The words the seemingly angry woman says to the group are chilling: "You should have left."

Spoilers for the "Severance" season 1 finale ahead; the official season 2 logline on Apple TV+ says: "Mark and his friends toyed with the severance barrier. As a result, they learn that there are dire consequences.

Little additional information about Season 2 has been revealed, but we can guess what "consequences" they will face, given the significant revelation in the Season 1 finale. In that episode, as Innie and her friends look for help in the outside world, Helly discovers that her outie is Helena Egan, daughter of Lumon CEO Jayme Egan. Helly also reveals to a party full of Lumon shareholders that the company is torturing its mutilated employees, despite recently fired Ms. Covell's attempts to stop her.

Mark's Inny also discovers that Miss Casey is actually Gemma, Outie Mark's supposedly deceased wife, and spills the news publicly at Devon and Ricken's book party. His efforts are then halted when Inny Dylan is tackled to the ground by Milcic while trying to keep the mental gate open back in Lumon's control room.

In April 2022, stars Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, and Tramel Tillman discuss why Helena chose to mutilate herself, why Lumon faked Gemma's death, why Outie Irving is studying Lumon, Inny Mark and Inny Helly spoke to Variety about the show's big questions, such as whether they would explore their own connections.

Meanwhile, series creator Dan Erickson spoke to Esquire about his plans to "expand the world somewhat" in the upcoming season.

"We have an overall plan for the show," he said. Because we wanted to give it the flexibility to go two seasons, six seasons, whatever. We want to surprise people with where the show is going. What Lumon is trying to do, what role the main characters are trying to play in it, and where it comes to fruition. It's really exciting to think about the next step in that journey."
