Princess Kate makes a surprise appearance at Wimbledon, wearing a purple Safiya dress endorsed by the British Royal Family.

She's back. Princess Kate returned to Wimbledon on Sunday, July 14, with her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton Matthews.

For her triumphant return to the world's oldest and arguably most prestigious tennis tournament, Kate Middleton chose a regal-looking purple Safiya dress with a ruched bodice and softly flared skirt.

Purple is not only a historically regal color that has been adorned by monarchs for centuries, but is also closely associated with Wimbledon and its iconic purple and green logo.

To accessorize for Wimbledon, the Princess of Wales wore Sabine hoop earrings by independent British jeweler By Pariah.

Daughter Princess Charlotte wore an adorable blue and white polka dot dress highlighted by a matching blue ribbon perfectly placed in her hair.

Sister Pippa Middleton Matthews appeared alongside the mother-daughter duo in a white and pink floral Peony Teaberry dress by Beulah London, featuring a striking ruffle overlay.

A patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Princess Kate was given the role in 2016 courtesy of the late Queen Elizabeth.

This year, Middleton missed the women's final due to ongoing preventive treatment for an unspecified cancer, but was thankfully present to watch the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

After the match, it is customary for the Princess of Wales to present the trophy to the winner.

The trophy is a mint green Balmain blazer with a white pleated skirt and heels, a tennis-ball green self-portrait dress, and an emerald green Laurent Mouret dress. Not surprisingly, the choice to dress only in green was also an important fashion decision.

Princess Kate has taken a step back from royal life since announcing her diagnosis of an unspecified type of cancer and is currently undergoing preventive chemotherapy in private with her immediate family.

According to recent reports, Middleton was keen to attend this year's Wimbledon Championships, but the decision ultimately fell to her husband, Prince William. [Prince William rules this household, and Prince William will be the judge of her condition. There is no way he would interfere with Kate in a way that she could not handle."

On Saturday, July 13, Kensington Palace confirmed that Middleton would indeed watch the men's final in person.

Middleton's Wimbledon appearance is her second official public appearance this year; in June, the royal made her long-awaited return to the public eye at this year's Trooping the Colour, wearing a white long-sleeved dress by Jenny Packham, tied at the collar with an exaggerated contrast She wore a white long-sleeved dress by Jenny Packham with an exaggerated contrasting ribbon tied at the collar. She paired the dress with a white angled hat by Philip Treacy.

Middleton's appearance at this year's Wimbledon was not only a welcome one for the crowd and spectators around the world, but also apparently a delight for the Princess of Wales herself, a longtime fan of the sport and the tournament in particular.

"Wimbledon is like the quintessential British summer, and I think it inspires young people and myself: our Wimbledon."

"That hasn't changed. I think that's what's so great about it."
