Sophie Turner embraces summer's most whimsical shirt trend

[Peter Pan collars are a shirt trend this summer. Sophie Turner clearly got the memo as far as her date attire is concerned. Turner's look, a dark green and white gingham Peter Pan collar blouse paired with slim-fit jeans and classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers, was perfect for the lead role in Greta Gerwig's indie-romcom. (Her brown leather Louis Vuitton slides remind us of that: we're looking at a celebrity, not a quirky fictional anti-hero.)

Turner, newly divorced, posted an Instagram photo of a romantic hillside picnic. The same day, the two were photographed giving a piggyback ride at the Cowdray Park Polo Club on the Pearson family's 16,000-acre estate in West Sussex. (Piggybacking is... . can only be described as a Gerwig-like touch.)

From the runway to social media to Sophie Turner's wardrobe, feminine twee is trending. Before showing a closet filled with frilly frocks, tulle skirts, and pea coats, along with chirping crickets and the line, "My 'go-to' outfit," the ladies texted, "Want to go clubbing tonight?" That's right, the girls are out on the town in their nifty, viral doyen dresses.

It's truly the summer of Little Bo Peep. Chanel's Pre-Fall 2024 collection featured a Jackie O-esque tweed coat with a rounded neckline, while Miu Miu's Fall 2024 collection featured a Peter Pan-colored leather jacket. In her most recent collection, Sandy Liang uses oversized collars as her coquettish cool-girl calling card.

Ganni, the increasingly popular Danish ready-to-wear fashion label, has made bold bib button-downs its signature style for the past few years. However, the line that Doen (of Peter Pan color fame) collaborated with Gap on is perhaps the clearest example of this trend penetrating the wider market.

Bottom line: Sophie Turner won't be the last celebrity we'll see wearing playful shirts this summer.
