Anne Hathaway turns Gap Shirtdress into a sexy deconstructed Couture

As the Gap x Dêen collaboration takes over everyday closets across America, Gap is also making its way to the red carpet.

Anne Hathaway arrived on Monday in Bvlgari, 5 May 20, in a sparkling Rome press release in a deconstructed shirt dress styled by Erin Walsh revealed that her gown did not come from 1 of the luxury fashion houses in Rome or the Tentpole of Milan. Hathaway's shirt dress featured a button-up front with deep pockets, a sharp collar and short sleeves, 1 of which was deliberately styled to fall off the side of the shoulder. The front of the dress was also partially undone, showing off the semi-sheer white corset details at the bottom. She also layered a pair of white pleated shorts by a gap under the floor skimming gown. To tie the look together, she layered Bulgari earrings, rings, bracelets and chokers.

A Gap press release explained that Hathaway's appearance was inspired by both the brand's cotton poplin button-down (a label staple) and Audrey Hepburn's first lead role, Roman Holiday's romantic turn as Princess Anne. (It is suitable for Princess Anne of Hollywood to attend the runway show in Rome.

Since taking the creative helm of Gap in 2024/2, Zac Posen has slowly introduced more sophisticated fashion pieces to the mall's classic repertoire. On May 5, the designer joined Da'Vine Joy Randolph at the 2024 Met Gala in a custom gown made from gap denim. All the signs indicate that Hathaway is next to a carefully selected celebrity column, pushing the definition of what the traditional fabric and silhouette of the gap can do.

And the brand is making sure that the collaboration is not the only limited release that generates buzz. Gap press release said the brand will soon sell a version of Hathaway's dress online. For now, buy a shirt dress with the same classic look (minus megawatt diamond jewelry).
