Read MoreModel Lily Aldridge can divide her closet into 2 eras: B.D.(Before Dúen) and A.D.(After Dún). She does not remember the single gateway piece that made her a devout fan of the brand floral dresses and fluffy, flowing tops. She can recall an instant shopping spree with an introduction from her friend, interior designer, Emily Ward.
"The next day, about 20 pieces arrived at my house," she tells me while wearing a gingham, sleeveless dress from the label's Spring 2024 collection. Since then, "I've worn them to events, I've worn them in my normal life, I've worn them during my pregnancy," says Aldridge. "I just love them."
She's not alone. Since it was founded in 2016, it has steadily gained followers of editors, influencers and celebrities, and has been acclaimed by word of mouth with vintage archive prints and carefree silhouettes like Aldridge. Its fanbase is about to grow to thousands thanks to its collaboration with Gap.
Gap x Dúen, a 51-piece collection will arrive in stores and online on Friday 5/17, with sizes ranging from XXS-XL to max158 for price. (Usually Dúen's dress starts at about 1 198.The collaboration mixes Gap heritage denim with khaki, dôen's affinity for dainty floral prints and lace trimmings, and impulsive buy-worth effects Lily Aldridge has launched a womenswear campaign in collaboration with Dan Martinsen's sister musician Ruby Aldridge. "I'm not going to let that happen," he said. Modeled by twin sisters Levia and Zahar, the coordination line of the Gap x Dúen piece has also been reduced for children's clothing.
Pieces duos models range from white eyelet midi dresses and skirts to extra-wide-leg khaki and striped poplin footwear with lace bib collars with a pair of deep blue and crushed orange Mary Jane slippers. The whole line is rooted in the early style influences of Dßen co-founders (and sisters) Catherine and Margaret Kleveland.
"Growing up, legacy and classic in her approach to our mother's 90s gap look dressing — the personal aesthetics and design of me and Margaret" The idea of collaborating with a brand that evokes the same nostalgic feeling that we built Dôen is very important to us. It was exciting.
That energy comes to life in a range of fabrics including stripes, florals, and Americana ginghams. College preparations are also taking place, courtesy of baseball caps, boat and tote bags and crew neck sweatshirts.
The results range from Gap's usual offering to a certain feeling without alienating the shoppers who knew megabrand in the first place. While Dúen may be known for its windswept Malibu coast look, it's not the only perspective its work can accept. "It brings us such personal pleasure to see our community make the work their own," said CEO and co-founder Margaret Kleveland.
Her points were proved on-set. Both Aldridge sisters have modeled for the gap before, but Ruby's introduction to the Dôen had accepted the call for this week's campaign. And while she considers her style to be quite different from her sister's, she's still attracted to button-down shirts and Dôen-ified Gap denim."This collection was like a meeting point in the middle (of our personal style)," says Ruby.
"It was fun to see someone discover it for the first time," Lily adds."
If Lily has her way, Gap's collaboration will make Dúen an even more family affair. She already set aside one of the children's tea dresses to coordinate with her 11-year-old daughter 1.
Gap x Dúen is available online at Gap and some Gap stores, Friday 17 January, noon E.T.You can shop on the Internet.
