Patrick Zweig's sneakers are my second favorite thing in "Challengers".

There was so much to love about the Challengers (Score!... The tension!) ), but there was one underrated detail I couldn't take my eyes off: Josh O'Connor's sweaty, flawless performance of Patrick Zweig and his Nike sneakers.

I went to the theater more focused on the style than the tennis, ready for a fashion scavenger hunt. The fact that Loewe's creative director and founder of J.W. Anderson, Jonathan Anderson, created the costumes means that virtually every look used Loewe items, or sneaker brand ON, or minimal fashion giant Uniqlo, courtesy of past collaborations.

As a result, the two-hour saga essentially became an Easter egg hunt for fashion geeks (i.e., me). Each scene revealed a new cult favorite product worth pointing out to my fiancée. (Costumes that were neither Loewe nor J.W. Anderson caught my eye: Patrick's sneakers were used practically throughout the film, except when he was swinging his racket in many (very intense) match scenes. There's no denying Zendaya's work on the press tour, but as someone who went to the cinema fully expecting to rave about Tashi's look in the film, my fashion editor brain focused on the sneakers. Slim, slightly retro, and totally cool, I left the preview in desperate search of the sneakers.

Eagle-eyed TikTokers informed me that it was the Nike Killshot 2, the same slender silhouette as many of the trendy sneakers of 2024, but different enough to consider adding to my growing collection.

Only true fashion historians know that this sneaker has a backstory on the court. Originally released in 1979 as a shoe intended for sports like racquetball, the silhouette was re-released in 2009 with a refreshed leather upper.

The Nike Killshot will constantly sell out in seconds by the end of 2019 (where much of the film takes place), so it's a subtle nod to sneakerheads that Zweig practically lives in them, a truly in-the-know moment.

Here's the good news. The Killshot is now available in women's sizes. For the most movie-accurate shopping experience, buy the navy blue shade.

Can I actually play tennis? No, I need to get my feet into Killshot this summer." of course. What I lack in athletic ability I make up for in my ability to recognize a good pair of sneakers when I see them.

I'm calling it now: this is going to be the most underrated sneaker trend this season. Considering that they currently retail for only $90 in three colors, these are officially a Challenger Easter Egg for girls.
