Selena Gomez's off-the-shoulder dress, wrinkled on purpose.

Selena Gomez is redefining workwear.

Between dating Benny Blanco and filming "Only Murder in the Building," Gomez hosted Rare Beauty's annual Mental Health Summit on Wednesday, May 1, in New York City. She left her CEO-style suit at home, opting instead for a deliberately rumpled off-the-shoulder dress. As far as personal style goes, it's a true boss move.

Her dress, styled by Erin Walsh, is by Australian-based brand Maticevski. The intersection was evident in Gomez's dress: the exaggerated off-the-shoulder neckline gathered at the collarbone like a wrinkled bedsheet or a fluffy cumulus cloud. From there, the dress extended into a semi-fitted bodice and an asymmetrical skirt, both cut from a metallic cream fabric that had been wrinkled throughout.

Gomez let the texture of the dress do all the work, limiting her accessories to a white (and as yet unidentified) top handle bag. She also wore tan suede heels and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. Given the day, it's safe to assume that her rosy cheeks and freshly bitten lips belonged to Rare Beauty.

Clothes that look like they've just been taken out of the dryer-wrinkled, crumpled, or deliberately made into paper shreds-are one of the most intriguing new trends in the fashion world. The "ironed-down" movement, which began with Prada and Burberry's Spring 2023 collections, has been embraced everywhere this year, from wedding dresses (Danielle Frankel) to daywear (see Gomez's aforementioned dress).

Airy, textured pieces like hers are a pleasant surprise after the monotone palette, heavy-duty leather jackets, and other recent changes in Gomez's attire. As an entrepreneur, Gomez is known for showing a perfectly imperfect side of herself.
