Rihanna's Coachella Costume Proves "More is More" True

Coachella is not only expected to be a weekend filled with electric performances. The three-day event has become synonymous with over-the-top festival style, but there seems to be a wardrobe shift toward minimalism in the celebrity department this year. Rihanna, one of many A-listers spotted in the desert, rejected the notion and instead embraced the "more is more" agenda with a luxurious fur coat.

On Sunday, April 14, Rihanna was seated in the VIP section when her partner, Asap Rocky, made a surprise appearance for Dodger Cat's song "URRRGE!!!" and cheered for a surprise appearance for the song "URRRGE!!!

The 36-year-old showed her support in the front row, wearing a gray vintage graphic T-shirt tied back into a crop top. Her khaki cargo maxi skirt circled her waist and had a slit in the front. She also wore striped blue and white boxers that peeked out from under the skirt and a khaki hoodie wrapped around her waist.

Rihanna broke the conventions of Jennifer Lopez's flashy, luxurious outfit with an elaborate brown fur coat. The opulent outerwear hung from her shoulders like a regal cloak.

She completed her daring look with cream-colored boots, a beaded necklace, gold hoop earrings, and a sleek bag by Dior.

The "Wild Thoughts" singer filled her Coachella weekend with exaggerated furs. On Saturday, she joined Tyler, the Creator for a performance, contrasting her all-black look with a fuzzy, floor-covering white jacket.

Fur coats have also appeared everywhere from Rihanna's rock star errand outfit to a night out with friends. Prior to Coachella, Rihanna even wore the Mob Wives-inspired fur to dinner. While celebrating her best friend Melissa Ford's birthday at The Nice Guy restaurant in Los Angeles, Rihanna was dressed from head to toe in leopard print (courtesy of vintage Dolce & Gabbana). She styled the printed mini-dress with a matching coat adorned with fuzzy black cuffs.

Rihanna aside, there has been a surge in modest outfits at Coachella so far. Last week, Kendall Jenner brought her minimalist style to the desert.

On April 11, the supermodel hosted a welcome reception in Palm Springs to celebrate her new edit for online retailer FWRD. Jenner, the luxury site's creative director, was photographed wearing a burgundy maxi dress by Tove, a wristlet by the Olsen twins' luxury label, The Row, and black striped heels.

Then there was Taylor Swift's Coachella attire, leaning toward all-black separates that included a micro-mini skirt and patent leather jacket, accented with a green baseball cap (promoting boyfriend Travis Kells' podcast) was a must-have.

Perhaps we are entering a new era of festival style, but for some attendees like Rihanna, festivals are always about making the most of it.
