An “unusual” hobby enjoyed by Queen Camilla until tragedy struck in 2024.

Read MoreIt's not often that Meghan Markle appears in something as simple as jeans and a T-shirt these days, and on Wednesday, April 17, the Duchess of Sussex donned her most casual outfit to support a friend's charity.
Markle appeared yesterday in a series of Instagram photos posted by the nonprofit Alliance of Moms and its co-founder, Kelly McKee Zajfen. Alongside McKee Zazifen and "Suits" co-star Abigail Spencer, Markle appeared wearing a white T-shirt with the slogan "Love Like a Mother" and a pair of medium-wash, high-rise jeans. It is exactly the kind of laid-back look one might imagine her wearing to assemble American Riviera Orchards jam jars in her kitchen in Montecito, California.
Alliance of Moms is a Los Angeles-based organization that supports pregnant and parenting teens in the Los Angeles foster care system. This spring, proceeds from Markle's T-shirt will benefit outreach, education, and essential medical services for teens in the Alliance of Moms network.
Co-founder Macky Zajfen wrote in the caption of a campaign photo about his friendship with Markle and Spencer." When I talk about the people in my life who lift us up in times of need with the undeniable power of pure love, I think of these two. You inspire me when I need it. You pick me up when I need it and you love me like a mother," she wrote.
Markle has been participating in philanthropic activities around Southern California this spring; in March, she visited the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles to read to patients and re-wore her favorite Oscar de la Renta dress while there.
The modest outfit couldn't be more different from the open-back black dresses and white cutout halters Markle has worn on recent outings. Since teaming up with stylist Jamie Mizrahi, Markle's outfits have taken a quietly luxurious direction with a subtly sexy twist.
But casual denim has been the cornerstone of Markle's prestigious yet approachable personal style since her first appearance with Prince Harry in 2017. At the time, she wore jeans and a white button-down shirt to appear alongside Prince Harry at the Invictus Games. At official functions after her marriage, she occasionally wore straight-leg or skinny jeans, many of them from brands like Mother Denim. Earlier this year, she demonstrated her abiding support for skinny jeans with an outfit she wore to lunch with a Hollywood executive.
Before and during her time as active royalty, Markle wore designer and brand clothes that had more to offer than her sophisticated, clean aesthetic. Even in her more casual attire, she often chose women-led labels that were connected to the places she visited and the charities she supported. Clearly, her esprit remains the same in the Los Angeles edition.
