Katie Holmes' easy spring outfit formula is worth copying

Katie Holmes turned her spring 2024 wardrobe into an experimental playground with the help of stylist Bree Welch. However, it proved to be short-lived (for now) returning to her easy outfit formula yesterday.

The "Dawson's Creek" actress appeared in New York City on April 18 looking like a revival of her mistake-free uniform of the previous year. But upon closer inspection, it appears that Holmes has actually updated her closet with new items that resemble her "old" ones, including her favorite camel trench coat and a black tote bag.

The actress was photographed out in Soho wearing a light brown jacket similar to the Frankie Shoppe style she has worn repeatedly over the past year. Her outer garment was buttoned up and cuffed at the sleeves, revealing the blue and white poplin shirt she wore underneath.

She styled her look casually with straight-leg blue jeans and black Gucci loafers embellished with gold hardware. Holmes also accessorized with gold jewelry, oval Khaite x Oliver Peoples sunglasses, and a maxi tote slung over her shoulder.

The Holmes sighting came a day after she tested the "wrong shoe theory" (the concept of matching an outfit with an unexpected shoe); on April 17, during a daytime errand in Manhattan, the 45-year-old went business casual in an oversized blue button-up top and khaki pants. She decided on a casual look. Her shoes of choice were buckled slide sandals (much like Birkenstocks).

From layering denim on denim to experimenting with different sneakers, this actress is putting every "new thing" to good use for spring. Perhaps her latest sighting is a one-time slip back into old fashion habits. Still, Katie Holmes proves that if you like a particular item in your wardrobe, you don't have to stop wearing it.
