Prince Harry and Meghan officially close Sussex Royal Charity

It is truly the end of an era for Sussex fans. A source told BAZAAR.com that "documents have been filed with Companies House and the Charity Commission to officially close the charity (Sussex Royal)."

In stepping down from their roles as senior members of the royal family, Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) and Prince Harry (opens in new tab) have agreed not to use the name Sussex Royal (opens in new tab) anymore. As a result, according to one source, "the charity will officially enter a period of 'solvent liquidation.'"

It is already known that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to launch a new organization, Archewell, upon their move to Los Angeles. However, the formalities to close the Sussex Royal are currently underway. A source told BAZAAR.com, "During this period, all but the Duke of Sussex will officially remain as directors and trustees until the liquidation process is completed. The Duke and Duchess remain grateful for the support and guidance given by the Trustees during this period."

The source also notes that "the only program operated and developed by a charitable organization is Travalist, a sustainable travel and tourism initiative. Travallist now operates as an independent, U.K.-based nonprofit organization, which will take over all of Sussex Royal's assets.

This week, Us Weekly (opens in new tab) also reported that Prince Harry is no longer using the HRH (opens in new tab) title on the Travalyst website (opens in new tab). The magazine reported, "The website's mission statement previously stated that the program was led by 'His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex. It now states that it is "led by the Duke of Sussex."
