Read MoreOn Wednesday, Kim Kardashian West broke her husband Kanye West's (open in new tab) silence regarding his recent comments. At a rally in South Carolina on Sunday, the rapper opened up about the couple's private decision to have North West and not have an abortion. In the days since, in a series of deleted tweets (open in new tab), Kanye has claimed that wife and mother-in-law Kris Jenner tried to "lock him up" and is allegedly trying to divorce Kim.
The reality star and mother of four children took to her Instagram Story to address his recent remarks and ask for "compassion" at this time for her and her family. Kanye seemed to know this statement was coming, and on Tuesday night he wrote, "Kris and Kim made a statement without my approval ...... That is not what a wife should do," he tweeted. The tweet has since been deleted.
Kim's full statement: [As many of you know, Kanye is bipolar. If you are bipolar or have a loved one who is bipolar, you know how complex and painful it can be to understand bipolar disorder. Because I am very protective of my children's and Kanye's right to privacy regarding their health, I have never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home. But today I felt I should comment because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health."
Kim also addressed her husband's recent remarks at a presidential campaign rally over the weekend, writing:
"I understand that Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions can sometimes provoke strong opinions and emotions. He is an intelligent but complex person who, in addition to the pressures of being an artist and a black man, has had to deal with the painful loss of his mother and the increased pressure and isolation caused by his bipolar disorder. Those close to Kanye know his heart and understand that sometimes his words do not match his intentions"
.
She then concluded her heartfelt public statement:
"Having bipolar disorder does not weaken or invalidate his dreams or creative ideas. It is part of his talent, and as we have witnessed, many of his dreams have come true. We as a society talk about giving grace to mental health issues as a whole, but we should also give grace to individuals living with it when they need it most. I sincerely ask that the media and the public give us the compassion and empathy we need so that we can get through this. Thank you for your concern for Kanye's safety and for your understanding."
