Angelina Jolie Calls for Judge in Divorce Case Against Brad Pitt to Be Dismissed

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce proceedings have hit an impasse. Jolie is demanding that Judge John W. Uderkirk, the private judge overseeing the case, be removed because of his past relationship with Pitt's attorney, Ann C. Kiley, and as reported by the Associated Press, Jolie and Pitt hired a private judge to seal many of the filings and to manage the case. But in papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Jolie requested that Judge Uderkirk be replaced, claiming that he did not have enough information about the case he worked on with Kylie.

Jolie and Pitt were declared divorced in April 2019, but the couple has yet to resolve other issues in the case, which may include child custody, child support, and other financial matters (the filings in the case are sealed, so it is unclear what the former couple has yet resolved).

According to Jolley's Monday filing, Judge Uderkirk "did not disclose any incidents indicating an ongoing repetitive relationship between the judge and the respondent's attorney." Jolly further alleges that Pitt's attorney, Kiley, "actively advocated for Judge Wuderkirk's financial interests to have his appointment extended (and to be able to continue receiving fees) in a high-profile case, over the objections of the opposing party."

"As the filing states, what my client is seeking is a fair trial based on the facts, without any special favors to either side," Jolly's attorney Samantha Bray DeJean told the Associated Press. The only way litigants can trust the process is to ensure transparency and fairness for all parties involved."

Neither Judge Uderkirk nor Pitt's attorneys, Kylie and Lance Spiegel, responded to AP requests for comment.
