According to a report in The Guardian, all four members of the Democratic progressive "Squad" have been re-elected to Congress. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tribe of Michigan all won second terms.

Immensely popular among progressive Democrats, they have championed such causes as Medicare for All, drastic measures against climate change, and racial justice. They have also endured repeated racist and misogynistic attacks from Donald Trump (open in new tab) - perhaps most notably in July 2019, when he falsely suggested in a series of racist tweets (open in new tab) and public comments that they were not American citizens." They have come to us, and we should go back to repairing a place that is completely broken and infested with crime," he would have said. At the press conference that followed (open in new tab), Ocasio-Cortez said, "I want to tell children all over this country that no matter what the president says, this country belongs to you," and Presley said, "Our troops include everyone who is committed to building a fairer and more just world is included, and that is the work we want to get back to."

Omar celebrated the squad's victory on Twitter, writing, "Our sisterhood is resilient." In an earlier tweet (opens in new tab), she wrote, "We are building a movement that sees my struggle as intrinsically tied to yours and sees a world where all workers can be uplifted. Today's vote - the result of this election - is not the end. This is only the beginning," she added. [Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, "Serving NY 14th District and fighting for working class families in Congress is the greatest honor, privilege and responsibility of my life. She added, "Thank you Bronx & Queens for re-electing me to Congress despite millions of dollars voted against me. Presley tweeted, "We are not a "new" organization. We have organized. We have mobilized. We have legislated our values. He continued, "I am so proud to be your legislator and business partner. I believe in our power. And we are just getting started."

Tlaib tweeted, "#Detroit: love you so much." She also retweeted a video of people at the voting counters counting absentee ballots cheering to motivate each other and wrote, "#Detroit: you guys inspire me. You are showing up for our country. I love you so much."
