Princess Charlotte and Princess Lilibet Diana's names in common

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (open in new tab) have officially had their second child.

On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (open in new tab) announced the birth of their daughter Lilibet "Lili" Diana on Friday, June 4. The youngest royal name is a tribute to two of the most iconic women in the royal family, Queen Elizabeth II (opens in new tab) and Princess Diana (opens in new tab). In their daughter's birth announcement, Harry and Meghan explain the inspiration behind their daughter's name.

"The name Lili is in honor of her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales."

Lili's name also has much in common with another important female member of the royal family, her cousin Princess Charlotte (opens in new tab).

The full name of the 6-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The first name is a tribute to her grandfather, Prince Charles, and Charlotte's middle names, Elizabeth and Diana, are tributes to the same woman who gave Lilibet her name.

On Sunday afternoon, Charlotte's parents sent their congratulations to the Sussex family (opens in new tab) on Instagram.

"We are all delighted with the happy news of baby Lili's arrival." The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote, along with a black-and-white photo of the Sussex family. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie."
