Some people think Prince Harry has started speaking with a bit of an American accent.
Of all the wild rumors flying around about Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family, oddly enough, this one seems the least believable. Those who tuned into the BBC documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, which aired last month, saw 12 members of the royal family pay sweet tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away this past April at age 99. There were some truly beautiful moments, such as Harry and William's eulogies and Prince Charles' emotional talk about his father.
However, some viewers noticed that Prince Harry spoke with an American accent. In one segment where Harry talks about how the Queen and Prince Philip were "the loveliest couple," several royal watchers of the podcast Pod Save the Queen thought Harry's voice was clearly an American accent.
According to the Express, podcast host Russell Myers, the Daily Mail's royal correspondent, said of Harry, "I'll tell you one thing, and I'm not making fun of this, it's just a funny observation: I'd like to know what people who have seen the documentary think about Harry's accent. I'd like to know what people who have seen the documentary think about Harry's accent. Harry seemed to be raising his voice "as if he had an American twang." Myers noted that it was his intonation that sounded American, rather than the accent itself.
If this were another Englishman, it would be somewhat more understandable: Harry is married to an American, lives in California, and has been working on countless projects with American companies for nearly two years. Harry is married to an American and lives in California! (It's called Received Pronunciation, which is why royalty sounds so right when they speak). You can't imagine Harry's accent changing that much during his two years in Santa Barbara, can you?
Not sure if you can hear the difference, but watch the clip in question and judge for yourself:
"Did Harry's accent get yanked?
