Princess Diana's friend Jemima Khan steps down from co-writing "The Crown" Season 5

Season 4 of "The Crown" was generally kind to Princess Diana (opens in new tab) and made all viewers sympathetic to her difficult time in the royal family. At least according to Jemima Khan, one of the late Princess Diana's closest friends, who recently stepped down from her role as the series' writer. [In 2019, Peter Morgan (the show's creator, who was briefly romantically involved with Khan) asked me to co-write the fifth series of The Crown, specifically an episode about the last years of Princess Diana's life," Khan told The Times (open in new tab). 'I had never spoken publicly about it, and after much thought I decided to contribute.'

Explaining the reasons for his decision, Kahn said, "It was really important that the last years of my friend's life be portrayed accurately and compassionately.

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.Khan added, "From September 2020 to February 2021, we worked together on the outline and the script."

"When our co-writing agreement was not honored, and when I realized that that particular storyline did not need to be told with as much respect and compassion as I had hoped, I requested that all my contributions be removed from the series and declined (writing) credit."

Khan, a former journalist who now works primarily as a filmmaker, was once married to cricketer Imran Khan, the current prime minister of Pakistan, according to the Times. For a time, Diana was romantically involved with Imran Khan's distant cousin, heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.

So far, the series, which has chronicled the trials and tribulations of the royal family from the then wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip (opens in new tab) to the decline of the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana (opens in new tab), has already had its fair share of (opens in new tab) controversy (opens in new tab), and it doesn't look like it will subside anytime soon.
