Cory Booker and Rosario Dawson are no longer related.
Washington's coolest couple has parted ways. New Jersey Senator and former presidential candidate Cory Booker has ended his relationship with his action star and activist girlfriend Rosario Dawson, Marie Claire has learned. The source said that Booker and Dawson, who have been together for nearly three years, decided to break up this summer, but have remained friends. It became difficult for them to keep their distance," the source said. Booker, of course, travels back and forth between New Jersey and Washington, D.C., working to get President Biden's agenda passed in the Senate. Dawson, meanwhile, spent the summer filming "Clerks III."
Booker has rarely spoken about his love life in the past (opens in new tab), but in February 2019, during the presidential campaign, he sensationally admitted on his radio show "The Breakfast Show" that he had a "boo" and Dawson told a TMZ reporter at the airport a few weeks later ( opens in new tab) that, yes, they were in love.
Apparently, the two first met at a fundraiser for then-Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jeal around the fall of 2017. Nothing came of this encounter, as Dawson was still seeing another boyfriend at the time, but the politician and actress reunited almost a year later. Booker told CNN's Town Hall in March 2019, "We met again and it was a really awkward experience. I am a U.S. senator and I had to be brave enough to approach her and ask her for her phone number. I was nervous, even though I'm not nervous [when I'm on TV]."
The two then continued their public courtship, appearing together on the campaign trail and at movie premieres. The two even managed to survive the early stages of a coronavirus pandemic. Many Booker fans hoped the relationship would continue, but Dawson sold his California mansion earlier this year to live with Booker on the East Coast. A representative from Senator Booker's office declined to comment for this article.
A complete history of their time together is below for those who are feeling nostalgic.
January 2019
Rosario and Cory were seen "making out" in the Broadway show "Dear Evan Hanson," fueling initial speculation that they were dating The two posed backstage with the cast, with Rosario overheard Cory say "I love you" to her. On his way to the exit, Dawson began jokingly singing a made-up song to Booker as he crossed the empty stage, "I love you; te amo [Spanish for 'I love you']."
"Page Six" (open in new tab) explained that the two had known each other "for years."
A few days earlier, the two had been seen watching a movie together in New York City (opens in new tab).
February 2019
Corey cheerfully admitted that they were dating, but did not specify who they were dating." "I'm dating someone really special before I declare myself president," he told "The Breakfast Club (opens in new tab). He added, "I got a boo."
March 2019
Rosario confirmed the relationship to TMZ (opens in new tab), saying, "I'm just grateful to be with someone I respect, love, and admire so much." She added, "He is a wonderful human being." "It's good to spend time together when we can." He added.
Speaking at a CNN Town Hall about how they met, Corey also said, "I have an incredible girlfriend." He added, "She is just amazing and I am just as hopeful as my mother."
April 2019
Cory appeared on Rosario's Instagram, in which the two geeked out over their shared excitement for Avengers: Endgame
June 2019
In an interview with RuPaul (open in new tab ), Rosario and Cory are incredibly hyperbolic about their relationship. Rosario told RuPaul, "Thank you for inviting my boyfriend to the show, it was a great honor. So she was in the audience when RuPaul asked Cory about their relationship. And Cory really brought it.
RuPaul, the true MVP of the situation, quizzed the presidential candidate. 'If elected, you will be the first unmarried president in the long, long history of the United States. Cory did not miss a beat. The swearing-in ceremony is January 21, 2021. The oath of office is January 21, 2021, so anything can happen in the interim," he said cheekily. The camera turned to Rosario, and Rosario smiled.
July 2019
Cory appears again on Rosario's Instagram. In it, Rosario tells Cory (they are in a car together), "I love you." He replies, "I love you so much." She tells the photo, "Psst. pass it on. #LetLoveRule."
August 2019
Cory and Rosario prove that yes, they are still dating, even though she does not attend every one of Cory's campaign events on social media. In response to a recent article about Rosario's "conspicuous" absence from events, Cory texted Rosario, "You did it."
Rosario screenshot the email and captioned the photo. Dear Working Mothers. Keep shining." The irony is perfect. Yes, Rosario has kids and a job of her own, so she can do that while supporting her politician boyfriend. It seems silly to have to reiterate that, but yes, the two are still quite happy.
October 2019
Dawson took to Instagram to congratulate Booker on their one-year anniversary. According to the caption, "I have never felt more connected."
Later that month, Cory gave an interview to Cosmopolitan as part of his presidential campaign. In between policy discussions, Cory shared insights into the couple's home life: they both love the book "City of Thieves," send her a song every morning they don't get up together, and feel "cozy" when they cuddle up and watch TV together.
They also walked the red carpet together in October. Booker escorted his A-list girlfriend to the premiere of the film Zombieland: the two looked adorable in matching navy suits, and they seemed very much in love, taking selfies and indulging in PDA. Cory is campaigning for president, but it's great to see him taking time out to support Dawson's equally important career.
December 2019
The New York Times will profile the couple. A New York Times reporter followed the couple throughout the campaign and they struck up a rapport." This is intense. Dawson said of Booker's presidential run. There is a really beautiful intimacy that we have built and maintained on this journey."
January 2020
Cory decides to end his presidential campaign. Citing a lack of resources and the impending impeachment trial of President Trump, Team Booker announces that it will end its activities. Rosario wrote on social media, "Cory, you continue to inspire me every day. Corey, you continue to inspire me every day. You and your amazing team have represented the best of us on this journey. Thank you. Thank you...I love you," according to Hola. magazine. Two days later, she posted another message of support on Instagram with a photo of the two hugging.
June 2020
Rosario and Cory moved in together. After being isolated separately, the two grew closer and took the next big step in their relationship. As People first reported, Dawson said she is "excited" to be living with her boyfriend after being apart since February.
January 2021
The A-list couple attended the presidential and vice presidential inaugurations of Cory's colleagues and friends (and former campaign rivals) Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Booker and Dawson took a prime spot alongside former Presidents Obama, Clinton, and Bush, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Kamala Harris' niece Meena Harris. Rosario wore a very chic blue cape for the occasion, and Cory coordinated it with a blue tie.
Around the same time as the inauguration, the New York Post published news that Rosario had sold her Los Angeles home for $2.3 million.
May 2021
Corey, an avowed geek, took to Instagram to celebrate Star Wars Day and give a shout-out to his girlfriend, who plays Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian. Dawson snapped an adorable photo of Booker holding a lightsaber gifted to him by the crew.
November 2021
After months of no social media posts about each other or public appearances together, Marie Claire confirmed to two sources close to Booker and Dawson that the couple was no longer together. Apparently, it was a matter of distance. Booker is working hard in Congress to pass President Biden's "Build Back Better" agenda, and Dawson is working on several projects, including Hulu's "Dopesick," which is currently in theaters. We wish them both the best of luck.
