Prince William "furious" at Oprah's interview, will not attend Prince Harry and Princess Diana statue unveiling.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey was clearly not a favorable moment for the 2021 royal family. Yet it is difficult to know exactly how badly they took it.
According to a friend who spoke to The Times of London (via The Mirror), Prince William was particularly affected by his brother's revelations, to the extent that he did not want to see the Duke of Sussex at all at the unveiling of a statue of his mother, Princess Diana, over the summer.
"William was still furious. 'William was still furious. He didn't want to go with [Harry]."
If the two brothers spoke at all as part of the event, we have to thank Kate Middleton for facilitating the exchange. She apparently "worked her magic invisibly."
"When Harry came, Catherine was wonderful backstage," one aide told The Times.
Prince William and Prince Harry issued a joint statement after the unveiling, saying, "Today, on our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength, and character. Every day we wish she were still with us. It is our hope that this statue will forever be seen as a symbol of her life and her legacy"
.
The Duchess of Cambridge's role as a peacemaker was previously highlighted by royal commentator Angela Levin, speaking to Marie Claire on the occasion of the Duchess's 40th birthday. 'She has tried to be a bridge between William and Harry. 'When H came to Prince Philip's funeral, there were very bad feelings between H and W,' she said. Princess Catherine began talking to H as she left the chapel. Princess Catherine started talking to H as she left the chapel. I don't think either of them wanted to speak to the other first."
One can only hope that in 2022 we will see a better sibling relationship!
